Breaking: Clinton Scores Union Endorsement

MSNBC's 'First Read' is reporting that the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts (IATSE)has endorsed Hillary Clinton today.

It is reported by 'First Read' that IATSE is 100,000 members strong.

I'd be happy to pull this diary if someone would like to speak to this endorsement in more depth.

I am not sure of their political muscle or what states they play the largest rolls in, or if they play a role in any early states.

isnt that a shock?!!

just two days after Obama had  major event at a non union hall that has been picketed by the IA and gave that "rousing" endorsement for them and their plight Sund night t the Verizon Center in manchester that went something like...

"I like working people...yeah...i do"....pause...

"Now back to Oprah!"...

Now how many national unions does that make that have endorsed Obama?

Still holding at Zero!

Re: Breaking: Clinton Scores Union Endorsement

NY, CA IL and FL are the states where there would be a significant membership of these union members.  I am assuming this will be followed up by other artist and entertainment unions for Clinton.

I would hope that in CA

people remember that Edwards has done a lot to support the WGA while they're on strike.

Re: Breaking: Clinton Scores Union Endorsement

Isn't IATSE the union that was going to picket the Oprah/Obama event in New Hampshire? Good for Hillary. In your face, Oprah! =D

no national unions

Just a handful of state SEIU chapters and a recommendation (not formal endorsement) by region 4 of the UAW.

I guess it's only fitting

that you'd try to start drama on a thread about a theatrical union endorsement...

Re: Breaking: Clinton Scores Union Endorsement

They would probably vote for her anyway- but this is still a great endorsent.  Onward- time to fight it out.

Re: Breaking: Clinton Scores Union Endorsement

Cool! Hillary is going to win this and win big. It is going to be an interesting few weeks ahead. I am really looking forward to Bill Clinton back in the While House. I have a feeling he is going to be more closely involved in the campaign the next couple of weeks. Also, expect some high level endorsements (like Ted Kennedy if Dodd permits it).

Re: Breaking: Clinton Scores Union Endorsement

I agree.

I believe Hillary Clinton will win this!

All this drama with Obama will only make it more exciting. But at the end of the day, Hillary Clinton will win BIG!

Obama has peaked
Obama has peaked. In the last two days:
  1. The press has started to raise electabilty questions
  2. The attack on Krugman has outraged true progressives
  3. Obama's refusal to stand with organized labor on the Oprah event in New Hampshire has not only caused IATSE to endorse Hillary, it will now make him the third choice, if not lower, for Iowa union caucus attendees, because he is now perceived as having a tin ear when it comes to organized labor issues.
  4. The IATSE endorsement makes Nevada even more likely to go with Hillary.
  5. His memo to the UAW going after Edwards has ticked off Edwards supporters, which also hurts Obama in Iowa on the second choice strategy.
Hillary will be president.
