Big bucks on Wall Street stirs up outrage

Goldman Sachs disclosed this week it paid CEO Lloyd Blankfein a nearly $54 million bonus in cash, stock and options.

The immense bonus breaks a record set just last week when Morgan Stanley gave a $40 million bonus for CEO John Mack.

To put it into perspective, New York State residents make an average of $46,000, or less than one-tenth of one percent of Blankfein's bonus.

The bonuses come after a banner year for investment banks, including Goldman Sachs' 70% rise in profits to almost $10 billion, the highest in the history of Wall Street.

FYI: Moyers Return to Investigative Reporting on PBS in October

In October, Bill Moyers returns to investigative reporting with three documentaries taking on important issues facing the country in the upcoming elections for control of Congress. Moyers in America will report on political corruption, Christians and the environment, and democratic access to the Internet
"We're looking at three issues that deserve to be at the center of the debate this fall, not just because they are important topics, but because together these stories reveal a powerful and sometimes disturbing picture about how our government works," says Bill Moyers. "The way these issues are playing out should serve as a wake-up call for citizens."
October 4, 11, and 18 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings): Mark you calendars, set your TIVO/DVR, or save this link. After the broadcast, each episode will be available in its entirety for [viewing online http://www.pbs.org/moyers]. More info on each broadcast below the fold.

WHO IS THE BASE?

I saw Al From from the DLC on TV.  He struck me as arrogant, flippant, and enough to turn a life long Democrat into an Independent.  He blamed Michael Moore for the demise of the Party, said Nader supporters were "unimportant" and he could care less if they threw away their votes, and that corporate money and free trade were important to the Party.   Shortly before watching Al From, I watched Ed Rendell, Gov. of PA.  When he was asked about the "base", he said, You mean African Americans?  These two things in tamden convinced me that the powers that be don't have a clue who their suppporters are, which is why they need Gov. Dean more than ever.  As the Gov. said, we need to quit being right/left, male/female, black/latino, etc.  We are the working middle income Americans who built this country and pay its bills. If Democrats don't even know this, maybe we are wasting our votes and Gov. Dean is wasting his time on this Party.
