The Pre-Snub Snub

By now we've all made up heard plenty about Obama's snubbing of Hillary before Bush's God-awful State of the Union address.  But apparently, there was an Obama snub before the Obama snub we've all had so much fun discussing.

Apparently, some unnamed leading Democrats wanted Clinton and Obama to sit together during the SOTU.   Clinton was willing , but Obama's people said no.

Sources:
Obama staffers rejected proposal for their candidate to sit with Clinton at State of the Union.
Leading Democrats wanted rivals to sit together for the sake of party unity.
Clinton was willing, but Obama chose to sit with newly-minted supporter Ted Kennedy.

Axelrod says no such invitation came from the Clinton camp.

If this story is true, not only did Obama snub Hillary by turning away from her before the horrible speech, but his people snubbed her even before that.  How tacky can you get?  As the Boston Globe puts it:

It's the one night in Washington when decorum truly reigns: The president delivers the State of the Union speech, and politicians of both parties put on their best behavior and come together to pay tribute to the living, breathing democracy that makes America what it is. Did Barack Obama honor the tradition?

Hillary Clinton did the classy thing.  She walked right over to her friend and colleague Ted Kennedy and shook his hand.  Despite the fact that he had just endorsed her rival in the nomination race. She wasn't petty about it. She's a grown up.

Re: The Pre-Snub Snub

thanks for the Whoopi link truth. ouch The primarey is showing how these candidates will govern. Is Obama going to continue the same old (geedubya)politics of snubbing those we don't agree with or like? How childish and shameful really.

Yep, I noticed Axelrod's non-denial denial.  What a chump.

Re: what a total punk!

No kidding. What kind of party does Obama want to build?

Re: what a total punk!
he wants to build a party which is friendlier to the other side than it is to fellow democrats.
He is the black Joe Lieberman.

Re: The Pre-Snub Snub

Putting the aside the partisan issue here, it simply would have been good for the party if this had happened.

crappy deflection
Obama strategist David Axelrod to The Page: "No such invitation ever came from Senator Clinton. Had [she] made such a proposal, we would have adjusted our plans."

No one said SHE had asked him.  I am sure that "leading democrats" did ask and he turned the idea down.

contradictory!

According to MSNBC Axelrod said that "there was no snub because "Obama was planing on sitting next to kennedy all along"

Uh oh...I smell BS...

Re: The Pre-Snub Snub

Is it me or does everytime he wins a Primary, his ego blows up to being unbearable?  He had that same snooty attitude after Iowa- "She's likeable enough"- if he won the nomination, he'd be walking around like he was Christ or something- idiot- he won't win and I hope good riddance to him.

Re: The Pre-Snub Snub

Not just that his ego seems to rise when he gets a win, but when he loses, there's always a complaint.

NH- Election fraud must have done it

NV- Well they were trying to supress the vote..(I went to a caucus in NV, i have heard the stories...there were many more people saying Obama leaders weren't counting Clinton supporters but w.e all this is over anyway...besides all those voters "she tried to suppress" ended up favoring her.

FL- Oh this one is my favorite: "Obama doesn't have big enough name recognition which is why Clinton won".

This is really starting to get sad.

In that case, I hope to hear a whole bunch of complaining next Tuesday night.

Re: The Pre-Snub Snub

I won't miss Obama when Hillary finally hands him his ass.  She will be President.  Obama will be back in the Senate.  And Ted Kennedy can analyze how much damage he created between himself and our new lady President.

Congratulations to Hillary on a stunning victory in Florida, where so many voters who HAD to be feeling pretty damned insignificant, got themselves to their polling stations and delivered a message to the country - WE WANT HILLARY.

Bravo.

Re: The Pre-Snub Snub

Barack Obama is proving my skepticism of his character true, and every time he does something like this, another piece of the puzzle fits into place. He looks like another George W. Bush to me--petty, a bad loser, petulant, peevish, self-centered, arrogant, thinks everything is about him.

"You were just too busy bein' fabulous,
"Too busy, to think about us...

That's a refrain on a new Eagles song...everytime I hear it, I think about what life would be like under a President Obama--just like life under President Bush.
