Kossack Stand Strong had an
excellent idea.
He suggests that every Democratic voter paint one of their index fingers blue in representation of not only our Democratic vote, but our steadfast repudiation of the President and his evil Republican Party.
Indeed, we have the power to steal away on their more memorable photo ops of the Iraq War...

On the Eve of Blogosphere Day, I spent my evening (and a considerable part of the work day) with Chris Bowers of MyDD, BooMan, and the other denizens of Drinking Liberally and stars of the Philly Blogosphere (among them Atrios). Chris and I went to the screening of Inconvenient Truth, which featured a question and answer session with the former Vice President and current legitimate President himself.
Chris and I arrived promptly at 4:00 p.m. I arrived before Chris and had to spurn the advances of Green Party petitioners who seized the opportunity of Al Gore's appearance for a petition drive to get them on the ballot.

Every week, I will profile a Democrat that interests me in some way. He or she may be in the news, or not. He or she can be a candidate, a Governor, a Senator, or a Representative. I believe this will be a great way to get to know our Democratic Party better.
Feel free to discuss your agreements and disagreements with the person I profile in the comments. I also hope that people who live in the state or district represented or governed by the Profilee will provide antidotes and information as well.
This Week's Democrat is Congressman Ike Skelton, D-Missouri.

I am just passing this along to all of yous in Philly. Philly for Change is having an emergency meeting (code for party) tonight:
With I. Lewis Libby's indictment by a Federal Grand Jury today on obstruction of justice, perjury, false statement, the wheels are really coming off of the Bush Adminstration. At last general public may finally hear the sad and shameful truth about the ways this Administration has sought to silence dissent about the Iraq War.

This morning, it finally dawned on me as I was enjoying my second to last "drive to work," passing my gas stations that raised prices $.50 cents last nights to a general average of $3.25.
What dawned was...."This is it."
This is the one event that will start a huge domino affect. For the last three decades, after the 1979 gas lines and the Energy Crisis, the debate of energy consumption and conservation has been pretty much the same. The conservatives and Republicans stated the following: 1) Humans can do no long term damage to the Earth; 2) As such, there is no need for cleaner technology or cleaner burning fuel; 3) As such, there is no need for government regulations that punish corporations for pollution emissions or give incentives to corporations that develop clearner alternatives; 4) the price of gas is rising due to environmental regulations and taxes, not because of oil industry greed or lack of supply; 5) we cannot build more refineries because of environmental regulations.

DISCLAIMER: This is cross posted in the diaries on Daily Kos and BooMan Tribune.
I am a pretty religious Catholic who believes in Jesus Christ. But I can treat the Bible as something less than the absolute truth. Indeed, I believe it is one large allegory preaching to primative and medieval man values and morals.
There are some fantastic stories in the Bible that as a kid I was skeptical about.
I mean, come on, the Red Sea just parting for Moses? Yeah, that doesn't wash. The entire planet flooded, and only Noah and his ark full of humans and animals surviving? Unlikely, as we would have evidence of it in the worldwide fossil record.
The world created in just 6 days? I rather believe William Jennings Bryan's theory in the Scopes Monkey trial that a day back in biblical times could have lasted millions of years.

I need large amounts of alcohol. Well, there is a need, and there is a want. I need drinks because of all this Bush news today.
First, the need. I mean, I think it is time for God to end his little experiment of seeing if one person so dumb and feeble could really destroy the world in 8 mortal years. Only alcohol can numb the pain that is George W. Bush.
And there is the want. The Philadelphia Eagles will be dispatching with the lowly Minnesota Vikings and the scumbag Randy Moss this Sunday, and I must celebrate.
So if any MyDDians wish to join me in Philly, post a comment.

I stumbled onto a new poll site not unlike Current Electoral Vote Indicator. The site is called Race2004, located at
http://www.race2004.net. No, the site does not contain a discussion of the current state of racial politics in 2004.
However, their analysis is interesting.
The following is their take on the current state of the race. [Note to all pessimists out there: you should only pay attention to state by state analysis, EV analysis and state polls].

My Faith has taught me many things. It has taught me the Golden Rule of Life: Treat others as you would want to be treated, or as Jesus put it, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." My Faith has taught me that the murder of any human being is wrong. And therefore I oppose the death penalty. My Faith has taught me that life begins at conception and thus abortion is wrong. Therefore, that is why I oppose abortion. My Faith has taught me to value, respect and assist the needy, the poor, and those who go without.
My Faith does not tell me to force these beliefs on others. My Faith does not tell me that I must make a spectacle of myself performing my Faith. My Faith does not tell me to shame others who are not of my Faith. My Faith does not tell me to disrespect differing opinions.
Today, I was put in the mood of thinking about the interaction between Religion and Government, or Church and State. As I read the story in above provided link, I felt my anger grow. It is an old dispute that has been fought many times. Many parents and students in a Southern Delaware district want to have Christian prayer in their school, at their Graduation, and during their school board meetings. The ACLU is threatening a lawsuit as a result.
