Greg is one of the most impressive candidates I've seen for the state legislature in a decade. He's a great guy to boot!

Agreed. Dems are really apathetic about this race. It's not going to approach Webb-Miller levels of non-interest, but it'll be close.

Why are you including the Moran internal poll in the mix on your pollster chart? They didn't even release the top lines to the public...they released the numbers for their formulation of people who were "REALLY" likely to vote...because those numbers were better...

This is anybody's race. I'll give you that. Neither of the three candidates has excited anybody other than their friends and relatives... But I wouldn't bank on that poll you included as evidence...

  • The main thing preventing single-payer is reality. You can't just shut down the entire healthcare industry. I'd love single-payer...but it's not going to happen.

  • As the head of a large corporation, I'm hoping Obama passes immigration reform. It's really the key to keeping working class wages as low as possible. If we don't increase the flow of low skilled laborers to America, then I might have to pay people a living wage.

The DNC and Donna Brazille have conspired to hide this result and make the actual results of the individual races count, rather than the true measure, the popular vote!!!

    SEXISM!!!

Your whole theory is just a fairy tale!!!

Hey - hold on a second - Jesse Jackson made sexist jokes in South Carolina too!!!

  • comment on a post delete over 3 years ago

I agree, this is sexism at it's worst.

Bill Clinton race-baits and laughs at sexist jokes. What's to like about this man?

At least he's a devoted husband!

  • People tend to credit the Dean campaign's innovative use of the internet towards Dean's "success" as chairman.

I don't want to rain on the parade - but those are separate things. Dean deserves credit for deploying those tools during his campaign, but it was the Obama campaign - independent of the party establishment - that took them to the next level, without any help from the DNC (because it was a competitive primary).

Also - Dean just didn't raise much money - even WITH the new internet technologies that he had supposedly mastered. I'm not sure we can really give him that much credit for the gains in 2006 and 2008...

  • I love Dean like the next guy (or gal), but I'm not sure how much he really did. The DNC didn't raise much money...so they couldn't deploy that much in resources in 2006. That meant we couldn't stretch the map.

And in 2007/2008? The lengthy primary season/Obama campaign's organizing platform (developed independent of the DNC) really caused the widespread field advantage across the country against McCain.

You also have the downfall of the Republican party between 2004 and 2008 that really allowed for gains.

Sure, Dean gave a pittance to the state parties. And he oversaw the implementation of a dynamic/uniform voter identification system across the country. But any chair would have done that...and another chair might have had more money to develop a better system!

Like I said - I love Dean - but I'm not sure what the DNC does other than raise money and make a few strategic decisions.

People do goofy things at parties where alcohol is present. Get over it.

  • comment on a post Why "Any Democrat Would Win" Is Wrong over 3 years ago

    Obama was our strongest candidate.

But your 2004 analogy is wrong. Bush's approval rating was above 50% in 2000. I don't call that "Wildly unpopular"

  • comment on a post No correlation between Primary & GE Turnout over 3 years ago

When was the last time we had a 50 state (errr...48) state primary? That makes this one pretty unique and difficult to compare to historical trends.

The biggest factor in boosting turnout is higher engagement levels amongst young people. It's not just Obama or anyone else getting them registered - it's the fact that they're already much more engaged than Generation X. Maybe we have Jon Stewart to credit for making politics much cooler. I don't know.

  • comment on a post Why I Voted Against the Bailout over 3 years ago

Give me a break, Tom. And I'm a big fan. We know you're getting tons of wacko constituent calls whining about the bailout.

But come tomorrow, you'll be getting serious calls from folks who lost a chunk of their retirement yesterday....

We all know why you voted against this - because it wasn't going to pass. Once you knew it wasn't going to pass, the smart move was to vote against it.

    Give me a break.
