I too had an auto accident that I still have nightmares about 20+ years later. I was in a little white econobox Plymouth Horizon and had to slam on the brakes to avoid a long Pepsi truck. Unfortunately the Horizon was a piece of crap car and immediately started spinning around and around out of control on the highway. And a car behind me hit me and my car started spinning the other direction as most of the car crunched up like a tin can around me and all of the glass shattered into little pieces, spraying me in the face and body. Fortunately, physically, the little cuts and a minor concussion were all the injuries I suffered. But for several years I would relive this accident every night in my dreams. And to this day I sometimes have that dream, if I have too much caffeine especially.
That being said, I must say, what happened today in the RBC was nothing whatsoever like that accident.
As much as Sen. Clinton's supporters want to invent new metrics and change rules whenever it suits them, this is still a contest of obtaining delegates. Even if FL and MI are seated exactly as they already have been selected, the math is strongly against her.
No matter what Sen. Clinton's supporters are saying this is not a battle over enfranchisement.
It's a battle of who wins and who loses.
Sen. Clinton would not win under my scenario, therefore her people will reject it. Even though I gave the voters who voted 100% enfranchisement, she could not win without expanding the superdelegate pool substantially. Note that Lanny Davis' "fair" proposal tells the uncommitteds who to vote for, rather than leave it up to the already selected delegations. That's another way she could win, I suppose, by disenfranchising those who voted for "uncommitted".
Obama would win, therefore anyone who voted for him is not cheated.
The judge decided that small parties should have had the same access to voting information as the larger parties. And will not allow this information to be made available to the Democratic party for potential use this year.
Since that did not happen, Michigan must change its primary system looking forward. Most likely they will hold their primaries on the same date like most primary states do. In that case they vote in one primary or another, but only one vote per person. It is not necessary in that case to have such lists made available.
But the result of the elections was not overturned and there is no guidance as to how the Democratic Party should handle it's Michigan problem other than that they won't be able to access these lists.
And so, it's still the Democratic Party's problem, but there are now less options on how it can be fixed.
to prevent Republicans (or those far out of the mainstream of the Democratic party) from strategically manipulating the Democratic Party nominating process.
Same reason we have superdelegates.
I don't see a good solution here. I wish I did. It's a train wreck.
This "Snipergate" story isn't going away. It will be used over and over again to ridicule Hillary and to symbolize what she is all about. It will be far more damaging than Rev. Wright is to Obama... you may have a point in arguing that it shouldn't be, but when someone makes a ridiculous fool of him/herself like Hillary did in telling that big fish story, contrasted with video evidence of the real story with Chelsea and Sinbad and Sheryl Crow... a story like that is not going to die. It is manna for the wingnuts... a gift that won't stop giving.
And the polls that you pick - I would say cherry pick, but apparently, you find that accusation offensive - have taken place before the legs of this sniper story have caught on. Let's see what these polls look like in another week.
Because the Republican nominee is already decided and we're talking about an open contest.
So we will have a much larger percentage of Republicans than usual voting in such a contest if one takes place.
I think the prospect of primaries like this is why superdelegates were written into the current Democratic rules - because they didn't want Republicans pushing a candidate through our nominating process for strategic reasons.
If I were leading the DNC there is no way I would allow such a contest to take place.

I'm almost at the point where I would accept the delegations seated as they currently exist in FL and MI, with no reallocations. Even with supers.
I'm not quite ready to offer that. I only like to bet on sure things ;)
It's tempting, though.
