Too bad corruption isn't a behavior owned soley by the Republicans. Throw them all out! Every last signge corrupt official in the government Republican or Democrat. When the Democrats regain control you don't think there will be a temptation to be corrupt? That's why the Culture of Corruption needs to be attacked. The Republicans are just the worst and get worse as they maintain power. They aren't the only corrupt officials.

I would rather have all conservatives that weren't corrupt than some Democrats that were.

Corruption destroys the system from the inside out.

I am a veteran from the Iraq war. I fought in Sadr City on the day that Casey was killed. I am completely and utterly disgusted at the dirty tricks. They are cowards who only attack the little guy. They never go after the wrongdoers who have any power ( greedy corporations, etc.). That Americasn don't reject the dirty tricks is a complete dishonor  to the dead and their families shows you how low we have sunk.    

Instead of protecting our communities, the National Guard and active duty military should be put on the border between the US and Mexico to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing. We already have the police and other services to protect our communities for anything that is not a complete catastrophe. Of course, any action like this would be predicated on bringing the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan, which we should do anyway.

Its non-partisan for the state legislature only. What that means is there is no party affiliation designated on the ballot for the canidates. The unicameral is small so if you can find some support you can pass legislation no matter what party you belong in. Nebraska also has term limits imposed on its State Senators.

The political parties are involved. The Republicans control the state legislature. For what it is worth, Nebraskans are generally non-partisan. For Democrats to win and govern, they need to work closely with Republicans. For instance, in Lincoln you have 1 liberal State Senator, 1 moderate, and 1 Conservative. They all have to work together to get anything done. The Democratic canidate for congress used to be the head of the unimcameral. I know Democrats who have initiated anti-stem cell research measures and abortion meausures.

The institutions in Nebraska are progressive, but the people are conservative. How does that play out? Well, the state budget is set to be consumed by medicaid and education in the years to come if nothing is done to change the course of the budget. At the same time, Nebraska is the most pro life state in the country, and has passed DOMA laws. The left-right dichotomy doesn't play well in Nebraska.
 

You can stop right there- look at ideological affiliation. A majority of people consider themselves conservative or independent, so if you write them off, just forget about ever winning especially in districts that are in red states.

Paul Hackett only came close by winning over independents and Republicans. With an attitude like yours, that will never happen.
 

That is so lame, and one of the reasons the Democrats don't win.

It is because Hackett is a veteran, plain and simple. It is becuase he sticks to his his guns, and his oppenent was horrible, and the net roots came through big. You need not look any further than that.

You stepping all up in mydd. Know what I'm saying? Yeah! Got the numbers, yeah CB's got the numbers. Jeromes got the numbers. We got spreadsheet. Oh yeah...

Yes, remember when the British sent letters to Ohio encouraging them to vote for Kerry? I think that backfired.

We need more veterans, tempered by their experiences in war, to run and represent the people. I hope that the people realize that even if Hackett doesn't win, he deserves our respect and support. If you don't show up, you will never compete. We can make the safe districts competitive because people don't like hte entrenched corruption. In red states this is what must be done as Dean has stated many time, and   the only way to do that is to support canidates that may be more conservative on social issues and overall moderates. It might be not be what you want, but are the corrupt Republicans establishment what you want running this country? If so, then please continue not supporting canidates who "can't win."

 

They must be defeated for the sake of our Democracy!

The Democratic Party needs to have discipline not only in the congress but also at the grassroots. It needs to have a clear message that it is for the middle class. It for a socially and economically mobile society. It is not for the rich corporate lobbyist who are robbing the country blind and giving it all away.

Mydd has advocated taking a page from the Republicans in terms of party discipline for a long time. I believe that in order to successfully block the policies of the Republicans it needs to do the following: tell the national party to open itself up to pro-life and anti-gay marriage Democrats and Independents, and at the same time, silence the knee jerk left. All the Democrats and Independents who don't like the Republicans will come back to the Democratic Party in the event that this ever takes place and the Democrats will win.

Can the Democrats ever do this?

Something bad happenned, and you consider it "great news. Come on.

The military doesn't use quotas, but there is an unspoken quota system of promoting minorities. I think that is part of the "human factor" you talk about.
