However, news.google.com, when sorted by "relevence" (the default) should swing to the desired articles pretty quickly.

When posting the code, simply preface it with a statement explaining something like "Here's a bunch of informative articles on important Republicans running for Congress."  Don't use the words "Google bomb" -- CNN's spent much time yesterday trying to tell their viewers that Google Bombs Are Bad Bad Bad.  If they see the words "Google bomb" on your website, it's likely to turn them off.

Does anyone else find it incredibly ironic that a site billing itself as "direct democracy" would be interested in articifically inflating otherwise valid and pertinent search results?

Which is why you're just linking instead of having a discussion?  What have you contributed to your candidates reputation?  People are sick of the negative campaigning you know, this could have been a possible positive effort but linking to negative press just gets people to click off like you're a TV commercial.

Someone has changed the wiki page so that the "Personal" bookmark doesn't go down to the "Personal" section of the entry. Instead the link now takes you to the top of the wiki page, which kind of messes up the google bomb a bit.

Anyone else having problems with these articles disappearing?  Articles on Peter Roskam are disappearing from MSNBC and the Chicago Tribune.    

This is all great stuff.  I'm thinking, though, that it'll be equally important in 2008 to make sure to optimize search results for the challengers.  

Incumbents are better known by the electorate, by and large, than challengers.  So undecided voters are much more likely to google the challenger, and, with less other info about the challenger in their heads already, they are more likely to be swayed by the results.

If your goal is to do serious SEO, make friends with the following items:

ALT tags for links and images.

The H1, H2 and H3 HTML tags.

Add descriptive classes to you P entities also helps.

SEO isn't really as hard as people act like it is.  Most people just don't place enough relevant content next to their good SEO work, and Google eventually dumps them for being bullshitters.

Which means it isn't enough to have a block of links.  That would have worked nicely eight years ago.  Today, Google worries more about your ratio of content to links.

Basically, Google is reversing your trick to detect your trick, and it genrally works.

Worse, as your Google bombing effort spreads, Google's scoring system will note the similarities and punish site scroes accordingly.

That won't hurt a high-traffic site like MyDD, but it will hurt your local bloggers who may only have 100 visiitors a day.

I hate to rant on for a while, but this has been really bugging me as of late... I've been watching Google, and yes, my paranoia is not at "red" level, but it is definitely at yellow when it comes to Google. With each new product they release, it just sends shivers down my spine. Doesn't anyone else see what is going on?

Not working.  Not for several that I tried.  The intended links are not in the first two pages of search results.

Whatever the "ethics" of this strategy (see the conversation in a follow-up post), it has been preempted, probably by Google who don't like people to think their results can be manipulated.

And it makes lefty bloggers look bad too, by people who have no idea of how it's supposed to work, and who weren't going to search for info via that channel anyway.  Unfortunately, that's the take-home message of this campaign.
