You are correct, the 6% figure was provided by an evangelical christian source. And I'm supposed to trust them to count my fellow buddhists accurately?
The figures I've seen, which include China and Asia, put Buddhism at around 45% of the world population, no other religion comes anywhere close to that.
But this isn't a pissing match over who is #1. This is my expression of disgruntlement at a major world religion that doesn't even rate a separate check-box in a survey. Buddhism far predates any other world religion, and recent articles in Time Magazine asserted it is the fastest growing religion in America. To ignore Buddhism in the survey is a form of religious bias. I'm not saying it's deliberately malicious bigotry, but surely it is at the very minimum, blind ignorance.
As a Buddhist, I am continually offended by the omission of my religion from this sort of poll. There are more Buddhists on earth than any other religion. I am not an invisible minority. I am not a member of some fringe "other" religion like Wicca. No, I'm not some guy who read a couple of books about Zen and decided he was a Buddhist. I joined a real Buddhist temple 20 years ago and I perform my religious services twice every day.
Are you completely ignorant of history? Our involvement in Iraq started in 1991. US military forces have been continuously involved ever since then, even after Desert Storm, with overflights patrolling the No Fly Zone, occasional bombing, etc.

Let me rephrase your question in a manner that might help people see how stupid it is:
Why did you want Peace?

Vietnam is the perfect analogy. Get used to it.
