Brent Budowsky: The Greening of America

Let's get ready for the post-Bush era.  From The Hill's Pundits Blog:

The Greening of America

Brent Budowsky

Al Gore, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Hagel, Mike Bloomberg, Sam Nunn, General Electric, Coca-Cola, DuPont, Johnson & Johnson, Nike, British Airways, Wall Street firms, venture capitalists galore, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and the armies of the progressive Internet are all part of the greening of America that will transform our politics and business in ways that will astonish and amaze those who are left behind.

The greening of America is about the liberation of and inspiration for an America that will soon be de-Bushed, in which major changes are already advancing and the negativity surrounding Bush will be receding until it finally disappears into the dustbin of history and the real America re-emerges when he is gone from government for good.

Brent Budowsky - Tucker Carlson Says Al Gore Is Like George Bush

From The Hill's Pundits Blog:

Tucker Carlson Says Al Gore Is Like George Bush

Brent Budowsky

It had to be the most preposterous segment in the history of cable television to witness Tucker Carlson say Al Gore and George Bush have much in common.

Granted, Tucker's comments were sandwiched between the expressions of sneering contempt that he holds for Gore. Sadly, the guests on the show either lacked the intellectual firepower or minimal courage necessary to rebut this incredibly bizarre and laughable analysis from the host...

On what matters, Al Gore and George Bush have zero in common, and in fact, Gore is the exact antithesis of everything Bush stands for and does...

Brent Budowsky - Democrats Surrender

From The Hill's Pundits Blog:

Democrats Surrender on Torture

By Brent Budowsky

Mr. Smith has left Washington and Mr. Orwell has arrived...

Others and I were privately advocating a filibuster against Mukasey's attorney general confirmation bid, and would have needed 41 votes to prevail. At a minimum the filibuster could have forced Bush to accept a waterboarding and torture ban as a condition of confirmation.

Democrats had 40 votes against confirmation last night plus the four presidential candidates who did not vote. Democrats had 43 or 44 "no" votes adding the presidential candidates and, had these senators had the conviction to filibuster, would have won...

Brent Budowsky - New Hampshire Write-In for Al Gore

From The Hill's Pundits Blog:

A New Hampshire Write-In for Gore Can Win

Brent Budowsky

Note: The following is an elaboration on an op-ed ... published in The Hill's edition of Tuesday, Oct. 16.

It is undoubtedly a long shot, but the voters of New Hampshire have a wonderful history of confounding the experts and changing the course of American history.

Dwight Eisenhower was enlisted in 1952 by voters in New Hampshire. Henry Cabot Lodge in 1964 won a pure New Hampshire write-in while serving as American ambassador to Vietnam, finishing ahead of Barry Goldwater and Nelson Rockefeller, who were both on the ballot.

David Podvin: Eternal Nightmare

From MakeThemAccountable.com:

ETERNAL NIGHTMARE

By David Podvin

When Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez commanded the American troops in Iraq he passionately insisted that the United States was winning. Now that Sanchez has retired he describes our nation's occupation of Iraq as being "a nightmare with no end in sight." This statement not only reverses Sanchez' pronouncements made while in uniform, it also contradicts the optimistic congressional testimony of current commander General David Petraeus... who apparently really did betray us. Sanchez says it was his duty to obey orders and not dissent publicly when he was on active duty, but that in retirement he feels obliged to speak the truth. By acknowledging candor is incompatible with military service the former officer has mocked the Senate resolution that condemns questioning the integrity of warriors. According to the prevailing wisdom, Sanchez must be regarded as a traitor.

Brent Budowsky: Al Gore for President

Brent will be sending this essay to Al and Tipper Gore, along with the comments posted at the title link, below.  So this is your chance to tell the Gores how you feel about a potential run for president.  Please Digg the essay (registration required), so that it will be read by as many people as possible, and please pass this on to everyone you know.  There may never be a better moment to build the groundswell it will take to convince (Vice) President Gore to make such a huge sacrifice for us.

From The Hill's Pundits Blog:

Al Gore for President

Brent Budowsky

As these words are written the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize has been chosen but not yet announced and for purposes of the future of America the great and inconvenient truth is that this does not matter.

America does not need another prize, we need another president.

Dick Morris and the Hate-Hillary Republicans

Brent Budowsky

To understand the full magnitude of the catastrophic landslide that Republicans may suffer and Democrats may not deserve, read the last 50 postings of anti-Hillary operative Dick Morris on The Hill's Pundits Blog.

Most recently Mr. Morris predicted that Hillary will cause a stock market crash. No doubt within weeks he will suggest that Hillary will lead to the destruction of New York from mushroom clouds, that if Hillary is elected the Hale-Bopp comet will return and destroy life on earth, and he'll probably soon assert that Hillary has badbreath and body odor problems...

From MakeThemAccountable.com:

Born In The U.S.A.

By Brent Budowsky

In an upcoming 60 Minutes Bruce Springsteen will advance a profound debate about the true nature of Americanism.

It is time for progressives to light up the sky with patriotism, to rewrite the rules of our current debates, to rekindle that timeless spirit that has made America America for more than two hundred years.

From the internet to the arts, from the houses of Congress to the houses of worship, from the movie theaters to the concert halls, from the community organizers to the corporate boardrooms, from the studios of progressive radio to the grassroots of the real America, we should seize the high ground of American patriotism, American values, American ideals, our American history, the American spirit and the American future.

Let freedom ring.

Brent Budowsky: Clarence Thomas Should Recuse Himself

From The Hill's Pundits Blog:

Clarence Thomas Takes the Low Road, and Should Recuse Himself from Key Cases

Brent Budowsky

The new term has begun for a bitterly divided court in a dangerously divided nation, and the most visible event was a Supreme Court justice using the court's return as a book promotion to remind the world of his enemies, demons, biases and vendettas.

This is extraordinary and unprecedented.

Justice Clarence Thomas should now recuse himself from any cases involving any litigants who opposed his confirmation, because his attacks on them destroy any pretense of judicial impartiality. This is a man with a chip on his shoulder, axes to grind and scores to settle.
