NYT -Thou DARE not Criticize Obama

Today's front page NYT "Political Memo" reads like
snark from SNL.

It goes beyond the mere Obama Worship that CNN and
MSNBC has been assaulting us with.

Now, Obama is a Holy martyr.  He is JFK and Dr. King rolled
into one politician.

In somber, hushed tones, Jeff Zeleny speaks of the imminent assassination
of Mr. Obama.

Has Obama been threatened?  Well, the NYT doesn't actually
say that.  They don't HAVE TO.  This is the NYT, after all.

Only the dark Queen of Evil could even think about criticizing him now.

WHAT are you smoking?  The article wasn't about criticism. It was about violence.  Or is murder just another form of political expression for you?

Re: Who got murdered? Who got threatened?

Well...

Obama DID get secret service protection quite early in the campaign -- earlier than any non-former first spouse.

I'm going to presume that the Secret Service knows what it is doing when it comes to assessing threats.... hence - the fact that Obama got very early secret service protection leads me to believe they had seen credible threats.

Re: I expect more than assumption

I think getting a secret service details earlier than any Presidential candidate in history (May of 2007 IIRC) is more than just an 'assumption'.

I mean... do you think he got a detail nearly a year ago because he wanted company on the campaign trail?

Re: I think no mention of the death threats to HRC

Well...

If we're now talking conspiracy theories, then I concede.

I make it a habit to avoid discussing conspiracy theories because I've always found it to be a waste of time.

You win.

"Has Obama been threatened?  Well, the NYT doesn't actually

I had the same angry reaction to the NYT ridiculous non-news article about the risk to candidate's lives. Hillary Clinton receives constant death threats, I know because I used to open the constituent mail at her office.

After 9-11 I was too sick to continue my work as a first responder, so I went to volunteer at her Manhattan district office to help handle the many constituent needs. Opening mail one day we were suddenly faced with an envelope that burst open, spraying brownish sandlike material all over us. Two weeks later the anthrax letters were delivered to many Congressional Democrats, and media. It prompted the new practice of  x-raying and irradiating all mail before it is handled, to try to minimize the threat. We always had to watch our backs leaving the office at night, there were weird stalkers waiting outside. These are just normal risks that our politicians and their staffs face. It goes with the territory. Hillary Clinton risks her life constantly to perform public service, there are many very crazy people who hate her to a delusional, psychotic degree. The NYT has never published a kind, concerned article about her bravery and courage.

I am thoroughly repulsed by that NYT article. The favoritism is reprehensible.

Re: NYT -Thou DARE not Criticize Obama

"I hope you'll put that in a letter to the editor and a letter to public public@nytimes.com"

Thanks, that's a good idea, I'll do that.

Funny, Senator Clinton never once talked about that letter coming to her office. She really doesn't ever talk about the horrible risks she and her family faces every day. So many of those threats are really frightening (and as a first responder who has been involved with law enforcement I have seen many profoundly shocking violent crimes, so I do not rattle easily).

If people really understood how much pressure and trauma is involved in being an elected official I think they would have to respect people a great deal more for the life sacrifices they make to be public servants. It's not the glamour/power trip people think it is. In fact, it's pretty scary and grueling work, with many humiliations and lack of freedom, your life is so constrained by the constant threats. I am always amazed that people continue to be willing to go through all that. Many leave, it's too awful an experience, being a constant target.

People have been criticizing the Clinton campaign for staying in high priced hotels, they don't understand at all that very often it is for security reasons that only high priced venues have the security staff and even the willingness to have high profile politicians stay on their premises.

I want these people to be safe, and I'm fine with it if that is what it takes. What price for a life?

Re: I wasn't implying that he was out of touch

You are so full of hate, it's painful.

This diary is so lame...

and disappointing in what it implies.

Now, we criticize the press for reporting on the threats, democratic politicians constantly live under???

Get a life.

You see everything only through the prism of the primary and totally forget and overlook the big picture.

Lame. Sad. Pathetic. Repulsive.

In other words: Exactly what one has learned to expect from a MyDD diary nowadays.

Re: NYT -Thou DARE not Criticize Obama

"JRE used to get packages sent to his campaign office that were suspicious all the time."

I am sure he did. They all do, especially if they are attracting attention on the campaign trail.

The Secret Service x-rayed all packages before bringing them to the Clinton office, because of all the bomb threats. There is no way to protect elected officials completely, it is always a high risk situation.

Re: NYT -Thou DARE not Criticize Obama

Oh, boy...

The vast conspiracy continues, I see.

Wow.

Hey, did you know that the destruction of the Twin Towers was an inside job? I mean it! Experts have testified!

Re: NYT -Thou DARE not Criticize Obama

I find it disappointing that people who have nothing substanative to post elect to post anyway as if anyone really cares for their particular brand of ho-hum distain.  Please leave this column available to the politically astute so as not to discourage real discourse in favor of sub-intellectual venting.  Much appreciatated. (Oh and for those who don't get it -- let me translate to your level:  Don't post if you have nothing real to say - pretty please with sugar on it.)
