Andrew Card laughed off Morning Joe for "Time Horizon" (w/video)

Cross-Posted on DailyKos

I don't usually have the luxury of watching morning Joe on a workday, and I know many of you don't either, so I'd like to share how Andrew Card just got ridiculed for his mealy-mouthed defense of Bush's/McCain's "Time Horizon." His shilling was actually going quite well  until the words "Time Horizon" escaped Andy's mouth. The result was a loud guffaw courtesy of Joe Scarborough followed by the following, unusually non-anti-Obama conversation (paraphrased, but not loosely):

[Card attempts and fails to clarify] Mika: You sound a lot like Barack Obama

Card: The president will take direction from military leaders. Yes, there's a horizon when the troops come home, but it won't be a deadline bad guys can plan around.

[Editor's note: Huh?]

Joe: Are you suggesting Obama does have a time line?

Card: Sixteen months is pretty specific. The president has consistently said it depends on what happens on ground.

[Editor's note: Gee, he sounds a lot like Obama]

Joe: Obama is saying the same thing. It will be sixteen months depending on what the Generals on the ground tell him.

Card: That's not what he's always said, [Editor's note: Yes it is, liar], and there are not two presidents.

[Editor's note: Um, you're a fracking idiot. It's no wonder you stuck around so long]

Joe: He never said there were two presidents; quite the contrary. And Bush is moving towards Obama's position.

[Editor's note: Wow, Joe, so unlike you to harp on the truth]

Card: Yes, Bush would like conditions on ground to allow for an orderly withdrawal, and we'd love for blah blah blah blah yada yada blah

Joe, Mika: [amidst laughter] We love Andrew Card, but time horizon...time line? Uh-uh.

Mika: Who came up with that phrase? "Let's not call it a time line...we'll call it a time horizon.."

Ford: Score one for Barack Obama.

[Commercial. Upon return from commercial, the hosts continue to parody the notion of a "time horizon."]

Mika: I'm not giving up my timeline--it's more of a time horizon--but I'm going to do the news in 30 minutes.

Scarborough: Yes, we don't want to give up too much information.

Late-Breaking News from Bagdad: Obama has met with his newest supporter, Prime Minister Malaki, in Bagdad.

Also uttered on Morning Joe this morning: Confessions from Kalid Sheik Mohammad and others were FALSE and led our government down rabbit holes. To quote Dan Abrams: "Whoa! What a revalation!"

Bah, I missed it

I got called in early; otherwise I would have seen this.  Curses!

As much as I dislike Joe Scarborough most of the time, sometimes he does come through for us.  I think he does a far better job than Chris Matthews of representing a "normal" American viewpoint: yes, somewhat conservative, but also not beholden to Bush administration dogma.  The fact is that he vexes both sides of the aisle by playing devil's advocate.

In this case, he just recognized bullshit because he, like everyone else except the war profiteers, wants our people home.  Seriously, the only reason for us to stay there at this point, after the Iraqis made their desire for us to leave known is to further plunder the American treasury and the Iraqi resources in a completely lawless environment where you can pretty much get away with anything.  Period, full stop.

Re: Bah, I missed it

And don't forget to provide a launching pad for another illegal war, this time in Iran.  If Bush had 2 more years, we would be ramping up for that war as we fracking speak.  [love the reference to Battlestar cursing...I'm stealing it and using it from now on]

What the frak?

Which reference to battlestar cursing?  I mean, I love BSG, but I'm confused.  Then again, I only got 4 hours of sleep, so maybe that's normal.

Re: What the frak?

"frack/frak (sp?" is Battlestar Galactica's version of "fuck."  Maybe they didn't invent it, but they made it (semi)famous.

Yes, I understand this

I'm just confused as to why it was brought up here in the first place.

Re: Yes, I understand this

Because Bob Sackamento said "Um, you're a fracking idiot" in his diary.  Think of it as a coded shoutout to BSG fans.

stuck in time

McCain's stuck pointing to the past -- but he only wants to point back as far as the surge starting, not the foolish and tragic decision to go to war with Iraq to begin with.

Too bad we can't push some of these folks

past an Event Horizon...

by chrisblask 2008-07-21 05:22AM | 0 recs
The problem with a horizon is you can

never reach it.
