FWIW: Warner PAC Kickoff raises $2.5 M

From the Virginian-Pilot:

Gov. Mark R. Warner flexed his financial muscle as a potential presidential candidate on Tuesday night, raising $2.5 million for his national political action committee at a gala dinner.

The receipts set a Virginia record for a political fundraising event, surpassing the

click here $2 million President Bush helped raise for Jerry W. Kilgore, the unsuccessful Republican nominee for governor, at a reception this summer.

About 900 people - many of them Northern Virginia business executives and technology investors with longtime ties to the Democratic governor - crowded into a ballroom at the Ritz-Carlton hotel. The event was the fundraising debut for Forward Together, Warner's PAC.

Not much to say about this except, g-damn. Virginia, pound-for-pound is one of the wealthier
states in the country, but this is very impressive for an opening event. It'll be interesting to see what amount his PAC closes the year with. He's been quietly raising into it for the last six months so the number could be substantial. $5M, anyone?

Of course, the caveat to all of this is that tonight's haul is the easiest kind of money to raise. Next year, it gets a little tougher.
