No, this isnt just another diary calling Elizabeth Dole a Republican.

Last week there was a big conference in Raleigh, hosted by a "Non Partisan"group.  The big talk of the weekend was from all the conservatives who want to get back to their roots.  Even such luminaries of the conservative movement as Grover "Bathtub" Norquist were there.

In a rare appearance in the state of North Carolina, Elizabeth Dole showed up.

Thats right, after spending her entire time in office as a cheerleader for the largest deficits in American History, Elizabeth Dole is attacking her own votes for pork.  But wait, it gets better.

Dole, North Carolina's Republican senior senator, dropped by to present the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree a USDA Rural Development Business Enterprise Grant check for $99,000.

Thats right.  Literally days after begging for a law that the Supreme Court has already said is unconstitutional (so that her spending habits could be controlled by someone else I guess), Elizabeth Dole went and personally delivered some pork.

Now, I am all for the use of federal funds to promote economic development.  Especially in Western North Carolina, where decades of free trade have created overwhelming rural poverty.  However, to argue against pork barrel spending, and a week later personally delivering a check for pork spending.  Well, Mrs Dole, such things dont fly around here.

How else is Elizabeth Dole a hypocrite?
Mrs. Dole is of course married to Bob Dole.  Bob Dole was wounded in combat, fighting for our country.  No matter what you think of Bob Dole, he did serve his country, something that few other Republicans have done.  What you may not know, is that there is a VA hospital in Salisbury, where Mrs. Dole supposedly lives.

That VA hospital is not exactly well regarded.
In April there was this,

Lawmakers questioned VA officials Thursday about "serious inadequacies of care" at the Salisbury veterans hospital and demanded follow-up reports -- a strong signal they're not finished.

And yet, how does she rate on the http:// when these issues might have been fixed?

   * Awarded a Grade of D- by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
    * Awarded a Rating of 0% in 2004 by the Disabled American Veterans
    * Awarded a Rating of 42% in 2005 by the Disabled American Veterans
    * Awarded a Rating of 60% in 2006 by the Disabled American Veterans

   * "NO" to authorize $21.9 billion for the VA for compensation and pensions; medical care and hospital improvements. (S Roll Call 007, 02/02/2006)
    *  "NO" to increase VA funding for the increased demand for VA services due to the Iraq War. (S Roll Call 251, 10/05/2005)

Elizabeth Dole can talk the talk.  But when it comes to putting her money where her mouth is, she fails miserably.  We deserve more.
