Wage Politics Online - Social Security - Next step

December:

In a Dec. 20 news conference, the president explained. "Many times, legislative bodies will not react unless the crisis is apparent, crisis is upon them," Bush said, discussing Social Security. "And so for a period of time, we're going to have to explain to members of Congress that crisis is here."

January:

The RNC is re-uniting the BC04 team for their assault on Social Security. Right-wing groups are raising an estimated $100 million dollars for the campaign. There has been a war declared upon Social Security. Let's stop this fraud.  BlogPAC is joining the battle -- and we hope that all of you join us.  www.ThereIsNoCrisis.com

February:

[Bush] said, "I'm going to talk to the American people over and over and over again until the members of Congress recognize we have a problem."

When we launched our campaign to debunk the "crisis" manufacturing, we started with a call for an Open Source Press Release that resulted in our unified statement.

We need to do this again when we release our updatedIntelligence Briefing on United Seniors (AKA: United Seniors Association; USA next; USAnext).

Here is the draft version of our BlogPAC Intelligence Report on United Senions Association (USA Next) (PDF). For more information, check out some of the discussion: go here and here and here. And read a Judge's smackdown.

So please begin collecting your thoughts on United Seniors, the Swift Boaters, the White House, and the Republican Party sleaze machine. Help the blogosphere tell the story...

United Seniors has a long history of misleading and deceiving seniors.

  • In August 2003, Health and Human Services fined United Seniors over half a million dollars for deceptive mailing practices, including misleading senior citizens into believing that United Seniors' solicitations were official government communications.
  • The GAO determined in 1997 that United Seniors was guilty of "misinformation" for claiming that senior citizens couldn't contract for medical treatment outside the Medicare system.
  • United Seniors has been investigated multiple times by state Attorney Generals and federal grand juries for using exaggerations and distortions to extort money from senior citizens to fund partisan conservative activism.
  • United Seniors has never had seniors' interests at heart.

  • United Seniors began as a "fright mail" operation run by conservative activist Richard Viguerie to subsidize his direct mail business with donations from vulnerable seniors.
  • Early in President George W. Bush's first term United Seniors transformed into a champion of pharmaceutical and energy industry interests.
  • United Seniors' recent ridiculous attacks on AARP are in service of an effort to hurt senior citizens by privatizing Social Security, cutting Social Security benefits, and borrowing trillions of dollars.
  • United Seniors has always been run by partisan conservative activists.

  • Partisan Texas Republican donors and partisan Virginia Republican activists have controlled United Seniors since its creation.
  • United Seniors' mission has steadily expanded to encompass the entire conservative agenda, from support for tax cuts for the wealthy and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife to opposition to gender neutral interpretations of the Bible.

great moment in "there is no crisis"
    January 26th Bush Press Conference:

Senate Democratic leaders have painted a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy. Harry Reid was talking about soup lines, and Hillary Clinton was talking about the economy being on the verge of collapse. Yet, in the same breath, they say that Social Security is rock-solid and there's no crisis there. How are you going to work -- you said you're going to reach out to these people -- how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality? (emphasis mine)

Jeff Gannon has entered a world of pain because he lied about Senate Democrats in an effort to help gut Social Security.

There is a moral to this story. Bloggers have a Political Action Committee and have expanded our focus from elections to policy. Bloggers are coordinating offline and making headlines in the traditional media. Bloggers are going to protect our leadership from the type of attacks Karl Rove feeds hacks like Jeff Gannon.

Blogging is post-modern politics. In addition to the traditional organizations, politics is now being waged by individuals. In the 21st-century, politicians and hacks like Gannon need to be worried of 20 bloggers working together to tell the truth. In the case of BlogPAC, those bloggers have a standing daily readership of a half a million activists.

The lone-gunslingers of politics have formed a posse and we are raising an army.
