Does the phrase "hoisted by one's own petard" have any resonating effect?
Look, I don't think there's anyone who could dismiss the fact that Harold Ickes is a man of great accomplishment and a fine Democrat, who is a hero of the civil rights struggle and someone we should laud for his bravery in the face of evil.
However, that doesn't mean he's infallible. He helped create this mess. That is a fact.
No one can deny that it's a meme that's out there.
And as for McCain actually courting the vote of disgruntled Clinton partisans.... well, all he really has to do is sufficiently depress the vote for Obama for a win, not actually have them cast a vote for him.
It's little news stories and asides like this report that give the truest picture of what's happening in the primary. Just follow the money and the organizational shakeups-- they almost always tell the tale. Like personal loans to keep a campaign viable, and reports of drama and fingerpointing between senior staffers.
I think one senior Clinton staffer was reported to be looking for a book deal already, although that may be false.
