Interestingly, I think the Knox anti-machine ads may have got this whole thing started in earnest. They spoke to widespread dissatisfaction early on, and allowed people to talk about "revolt" from the party's anointed early on.
I STILL am amazed at the lack of in-depth online political polling. I worked as the chief research exec at a Fortune 1000 company -- and by the time I left the company (after 7 years of working there) we did 95% of our research online. It was VERY accurate and far more flexible and in-depth that in person and telephone surveys -- and about 90% less expensive!!!
Mike Fitzpatrick told his district that the $50 Billion in cuts were bad for the district, voted AGAINST them in the afternoon, and voted FOR THE CUTS at 1 am in the morning!
Its so sad, had the Democratic PA House Leader not demoted Dems who voted against the pay raise -- and got played for it by the Republican House Leader who DIDN'T demote his guys...we could have made this a winning issue.
Jerome -- Rethink internet polling. I used to work in corporate research and marketing and when I started to use internet polling 8 years ago, I was laughed at. Now, EVERYONE uses it in corporate America. And the results are AS ACCURATE as they were for phone or paper or in person intercept.
Thing is, its not the internet that defines behavior charateristics. Penetration rates on the internet are so high, that all demographic groups can be picked up and normalized.
Don't beleive me? Test it yourself. (I haven't, I'm just going from my corporate experience.)
Start internet polling vs telephone. Make it part of an R&D project for a campaign. If the internet works, you'll find that your candidate suddenly has A LOT more money to spend on other things.
I heard recently that a friend of mine was thinking of starting a PAC for Democratic Iraq War Veterans to run for Congress...I hope he goes through with it.
It would be nice if we could try to do the same kind of thing down-ticket as well. Wouldn't it be nice to draw some of those congressional districts without donut holes and pteradactyl shapes for once?

Three very long years.
The next committee person election is 2010.
But 2008 and 2009 will have plenty of opportunities to build a reform movement.
I think the Nutter phenom may have tails, especially at-large.
Both the Inquirer and the Daily News decided to go for challengers: Matt Ruben, Andy Toy, and Derek Green look very strong.
Maria Quinones-Sanchez is also running very well in the 7th District.
I've been blogging on non-mayoral races here:

I know Patrick Murphy much better, and from what I've seen, he looks like a real winner.
Go give Patrick some $$$ so that he can end the quarter on a good note!
