you must see this picture

Try this on for size MSM--Chris

a dear friend of mine kindly allowed me to snap a few pictures with his cameraphone while we were on lunch today.  what was so eye-catching that i just had to capture it for all of you to see?

well, it's a picture of what i consider to be your typical texas bush voter's vehicle.  it's a picture that just really captures the mentality that howard dean was talking about. it's a picture that will hopefully give all of you non-texans an idea of what we texas libs have to deal with every single freaking day.  it is a picture that perfectly explains why i do not think howard's remark was divisive or offensive.

here it is, your typical bushmobile:

as you can see, they've got their "w04" sticker firmly affixed to the windshield.  the other stickers - which didn't really show up well in this picture - are all anti-abortion stickers.  the one that stuck out to me was "diapers are disposable - babies aren't!"

but what really just took the cake... what really set me off so much that i made my poor friend flip a u turn and lend me his cameraphone was this:

now... can someone please remind me why calling the GOP the party of white christians is so offensive?

you know...
...i could submit an entire photo album of stickers i've seen on bushmobiles.  i saw one last week that said (and i hate this one) "10 out of 10 terrorists agree: vote kerry".

Re: you know...
Whenever my husband and I see big ol' SUV's covered with stickers like this we turn to each other and ask "Wonder how many soldiers per gallon that baby gets".....
by mouse 2005-06-09 12:54PM | 0 recs
another bumper sticker i want
i saw this on freewayblogger; someone should make a sticker that reads "hummer: 9mpg, 2 soldiers per day".  i want one of those, BAD, cause there's lots of stupid hummers here.  and have you seen, now they are making an H3?

Re: you know...
First time posting here but there is a sticker in the link  below that I have on my car. I like it because it's not just about soldier's lives. And I like it because it asks the question.

"how many lives per gallon"!  thank you for that link - i think i'm going to order one of those.

Re: you know...
That bumpersticker would not even be accurate: 10 out 10 terrorist agree that Bush is the better choice for them.

Re: you know...
The best one I saw was:

"I voted FOR john kerry, before I voted
 AGAINST him."

They can't handle the truth in the red states
Or at least some of the more timid Democratic leaders don't think they can handle the truth. Stephanie Miller was doing her show from North Carolina this morning. It was a strange sound to my Left Coast midwestern raised ear, but I heard the sounds of southern state progressives!

From listening to Dean's critics I thought there was a law against people with southern drawls being progressives. They love Stephanie Miller in North Carolina!

GOP Jesus
I defend Dean from attacks but I would have preferred he emphasize that Robertson, Falwell, Dobson and their elected breathren are really just men seeking power using religion for personal greed and ambition.

The GOP's crime is not that they are too Christian, it's that they use Christianity for earthly ends that are almost entirely not consistent with the teachings of Jesus.

What would GOP Jesus do?

GOP Jesus would have gone to Rome and cozied up to Caesar. GOP Jesus would have tried to increase divisions among groups in the Roman Empire. GOP Jesus would have pushed for Caesar to acquire more territory. GOP Jesus would increased taxes on the poor and decreased taxes on the rich.

But Jesus didn't do these things. He taught that the individual has a relationship with God, not through the church, the state or his ethnic group. Jesus taught tolerance, especially for those that are shunned by mainstream society. Jesus eschewed getting involved in politics.

Looks familiar
That looks just like the Michigan Bush voter vehicles, though they're usually brand new H2s.

Borowitz sez:
>Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean apologized today for calling Republicans "pretty much a white, Christian party," saying that he failed to mention that they were "fat and ugly" as well.

>Dr. Dean offered the clarification at a press conference at the DNC headquarters in Washington, D.C., telling reporters, "Any characterization of Republicans as white and Christian is unfair, since it totally omits the fact that they are pretty much the party of the fat and the ugly, too."

>The notoriously outspoken DNC chief immediately drew the ire of leading Republicans who objected to his characterization of Republicans as predominantly white, Christian, fat and ugly.

>Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn) lashed out at Dr. Dean from the floor of the Senate, saying, "Anyone who says that Republicans are white, Christian, fat and ugly is only telling part of the story, and Dr. Dean owes an apology to all nonwhite, non-Christian Republicans who are skinny and attractive."

>But hours later, Dr. Dean continued to stoke the controversy with his response to Sen. Frist's remarks: "I knew I was forgetting something - Republicans are really stupid, too, and Bill Frist, in my opinion, is not even a real doctor."

And for those who like it real, The Rude Pundit is in rear form today.

Which one is not supposed to fit? That's what the GOPers were accusing Dean of saying. I think. That's just fuzzy logic and bad politics.

Yeah? Interesting.

Say, I wonder how this will play with the base. How do you say "the base" in Arabic?

Re: IIRC, Arabic for God's Official Party
Silly Kagro, he asks a question to which he already knows the answer.

And as every Frank Herbert fan knows, it's Usul.

Because They're Hypocrites, Scribes and Pharisees!
can someone please remind me why calling the GOP the party of white christians is so offensive?

And it's offensive to real Christians to confuse the two.

Real Christians may witness, but they don't advertise.

by Paul Rosenberg 2005-06-09 07:19PM | 0 recs
Re: Because They're Hypocrites, Scribes and Pharis
A real christian is usually in some
form of danger and can't.

But then again, this is sort of
like "real men don't eat quiche"
type stuff isn't it.

I guess I agree with you. I can't
seem to recall when the real christians
I met weren't ready to put themselves
in danger for christ.

SUVs? They just crush whatever they
run into. Its not a safety issue
for them to be driving down the
road, its just lining up the pockets
of satannic arab sheiks with american
blood money. Thats probaly the thing.

Nice parking job.
Republican Jesus.  Perfecting the worship of "god" and mammon since 1980.

my friend who lent me the phone made the same parking comment.  that's also a pretty common habit among the SUV crowd here.

I emailed the close-up to Obama's office
with a very polite note that included the line "this is what 'dividing people by religion' REALLY looks like".

Thank you for posting.  Sometimes the most important act in politics is simply bearing witness.

i'm so glad you got something out of this post.  all i really wanted to do was provide an example of - as you say - what "dividing by religion" really looks like.  i'm glad you sent the picture to obama's office.  thanks!

those things piss me off so much...
I got a "Wtf?" sticker... when I see a "w04" sticker, I just nudge myself in fromt of them and slam on the brakes so they get a REAL good look, then I stay in their way a long time, just so they know it's not an accident.  Yes... I am pissed at you for voting Bush, and I am expressing my anger as inappropriately as John Bolton would.
