Hillary Wins Major Latino Straw Poll

Hillary Wins Straw Poll Conducted by the Most Popular Spanish Language Radio Show in the Country

"Piolín Por la Mañana" Declares Hillary the winner with 59% of the vote

In a sign of Hillary's momentum going into February 5th, Senator Clinton was declared the winner of a straw poll conducted today by the most popular Spanish language radio show in the country, "Piolín por la Mañana."

Throughout the morning talk show, host Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo asked his listeners in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Phoenix and New York to call in and vote for who they thought should be the next president.

Of the 819 people who called in, 59% said they'd vote for Senator Clinton, 36% for Senator Obama, 2% for John McCain, and only 3% of voters were undecided.

very nice

Hillary has been getting around 60% of the latino vote over the last month.  It should surge a little higher on election day.

Clinton - Obama 2008 is only a few hours away.

Let's go.

She should kick Obama to the curb

Go with Harold Ford Jr., and just irk the living shiite out of Obama.

Better yet, if he would do it, get Colin Powell.  That would shut up all the people who say we need bi-partisanship.

Lets face it any of them or a dozen others ... Clark, Vilsack, etc., can go to funerals just as good any the next guy.

Re: She should kick Obama to the curb

If Harold Ford Jr. were a senator right now, I absolutely believe Hillary would pick him as her VP nominee.  It would serve to show her commitment to the African American community, and it would be reflective a little closer to her own politics.

But it wasn't meant to be.

no way Clinton Obama

1. let's work hard and win tomorrow.

I think we can end it all.

2. Obama is an atm machine.  We can shame the media into keeping up the fawning coverage (not likely)

3. the a.a.'s (i'm agnostic) will demand it. Plus he can actually win states for Hillary. Georgia, and virgina would totally be in play plus he can go all across the country boosting dem votes with his message.

If hillary wins this with no more "campaigning" againt Obama, he's won 2 contests, showed strong, and is now ready to be v.p.

I'm going to work hard to produce this victory tomorrow.  I'm ready for more media and "others" trying to take it away.

Michelle Obama will say no

The party will say Yes

and that will decide it. Like 1960 when the two frontrunners were forced onto a ticket.

I still don't see Clinton/Obama

I think their egos would prevent either of them from taking the second spot.  I hope she offers it if she gets the nomination, but, after this campaign, I hope he refuses.  I would rather see her with someone like Wesley Clark in the VP spot.

Sweet! Latinos for Hillary!!

This makes me happy as one proud latina in the Hillary camp! ;-)  Hope this momentum continues building and explodes tomorrow across the country.

Re: Latinos will be the Clinton story tomorrow!

That's unfortunate. IIRIRA has devastated the Latino community.

Re: Hillary Wins Major Latino Straw Poll

does  this crap even matter? its irrelevant. I'm sick of all these annoying Hillary people blogclogging with all this crap. Its making me like her less and less.

Yes, I know you guys love Hillary, for if she wins the nomination she shall deliver us from the evil republicans.  But PLEASE - don't be jerks about it.

I remember when these blogs had SUBSTANTIVE diaries.

by dem sam 2008-02-04 12:25PM | 0 recs
Substantive.

This is the most substantive piece of demographic information in a week in a half, and I doubt you'd be this dismissive if similarly significant information came from Tom Joyner's listeners, say if their support for Obama was exceeding the expectations set by the Clinton campaign.

Can you see that your comment can  be interpreted as dismissive of Latinos?

so stop being a cry baby

and write a diary you want to see.  Don't cry because no one is writing your diary for you.

Re: Hillary Wins Major Latino Straw Poll

This is the best news all day. This was the area where I thought Obama could pull an upset. But with Piolin's listeners behind Hillary, Obama's odds just came down to earth.

For those who don't know, Piolin is the radio personality who brought all of the people into the streets in the huge Southwest pro-immigrant rallies. He is said to have the largest radio audience in the nation.

Re: Hillary Wins Major Latino Straw Poll

Guess Piolin, an advocate for immigrants, hasn't explained her draconian immigration stances and the devastating bill that her husband passed.

I wonder if John McCain will be able to take advantage of that should she get the nomination.

You act like

Latinos are ignorant of the issues you mention. Why people act like this, when it is rightly, completely off limits to do to women and other ethnicities?

FTR, I am of the opinion that groups who are most politically vulnerable have a better sense for the issues of the day than my own educated, pampered, white male class that congregates on the Internet.

This goes for African Americans, gays, and Latinos.

Can we not be so dismissive?

Re: You act like

You have evidence that Latinos are supporting Clinton in spite of their draconian positions on immigration?

I'd like to see that.

Well I'm not white, nor pampered. I'm an African-American immigration attorney and I'm quite certain that my large sample of Latino clients don't a) know the specifics of the immigration laws and b) know who is responsible for them. I've had the same conversation about the laws over a 1000 times. What they are and when they were implemented and why they can't do anything to remedy their situation but could have before the laws changed in 1996.

Re: You act like

I should add that at least with regards to me I am also quite aware of the devastation cause in the African-American community by the Clinton policies.

Re: You act like

John I agree, but they do it to women too. Do you know how many times people have said women are voting for Clinton because she is a woman and we have no idea what is really good for us?  Both Edwards and Obama have made that one of their arguments and Oprah said as much today in slightly different language.

They? Black immigration attorneys?

Re: Hillary Wins Major Latino Straw Poll

Man you Hillary fans are sad sad people, you can just feel the Obama anger flowing out for no reason.  You sounds just like Rove Republicans.

Congratulations on the loss of your moral values
