43% of Georgia's Black Voters Cast Early Ballots

Early voting in Georgia has concluded and as of the close of business, Friday, October 31, 2008, nearly 2 million Georgians exercised their right to vote early.  

DeKalb County closed out the 45-day early voting period in first place among Georgia's 159 counties with 177,320 early ballots cast.  Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb and Henry counties rounded out the top five.  

According to data provided by the Secretary of State's office, 35% of Georgia's 5,598,425 registered voters braved the weather and the long lines to vote early.

Four years ago, 834,331 Black Voters...

..Cast ballots in the presidential election.

That represented about 25.4% of the total votes cast.

Black voter turnout in 2004 was 72.2%, but turnout among white voters was 80.4%.  White voters also represented 71.4% of the total votes cast.

are there really that few (76,000) Hispanic voters in Georgia? That's barely 1.5%.

I have a good feeling about The big O's chances in Georgia. might be too optimistic but the early votes look very promising.

Also Mac supporters might not turn out as much because of the enthusiasm gap (ie him running a terrible campaign and being down double digit in polls.
