Obama Maintaining Georgia Staffers...

...And the Chatham County Democratic Party is already reaping the results.

In an e-mail sent out to supporters Monday, Barack Obama's deputy campaign manager Steve Hildebrand announced the campaign would have staff in all 50 states.

"...I am proud to announce that our presidential campaign will be the first in a generation to deploy and maintain staff in every single state," Hildebrand said in the letter.  "In every single state, our staff will build volunteer capacity that will provide help where we need it and impact races up and down the ballot this November."

Hildebrand's announcement came as no surprise to the Chatham County Democratic Party who already has five Obama staffers in their area helping with voter registration and outreach.

Chatham County Democratic Chair Karen Arms says that some of Barack Obama's supporters have signed up hundreds of voters while others have focused on community outreach and neighborhood canvassing.

Arms also said the Obama campaign considers Georgia a battleground state.  Those sentiments were echoed in a statement from Obama campaign spokesperson Amy Brundage.

"In the coming weeks, we will be building our movement for change in Georgia because we believe that Georgia voters deserve to hear what is at stake in this election," Brundage said.  [Source:  6/10/2008 Savannah Morning News article "Obama team registering voters in Savannah"]

coattails

Obama's got long coat-tails. Saxby is wondering if Vernon Jones is going to threaten his seat. But I was curious. Is Vernon Jones, all that strong of a candidate to run against Saxby?

IMHO the party would reap the benefit if Vernon could unseat Saxby, but on the flipside Saxby looks pretty strong.

Votr Registration being the main goal right now.

Re: Obama Maintaining Georgia Staffers...

You know, obama winning this place by a huge margin - may just put it into play.
McCain is not that well loved in Ga.

Interested to see what happens next.

Re: Obama Maintaining Georgia Staffers...

We'll just have to wait and see. I don't know how much of an effect Barr will have on events.

Re: Obama Maintaining Georgia Staffers...

That's the real question.  Obama will likely win the 10 largest urban areas in GA, McCain will walk away with most of middle and south Georgia, and the margin will come from the northern suburbs--Barr's old stomping ground.  If Barr can pull a decent return in Cobb, Gwinett and Cherokee counties, and maybe eat some of McCain's margin in north Fulton, then Georgia's seriously in play.

Base performance for a high-ticket Dem in Georgia is around 40% statewide, and I don't see Obama pulling 50%, but a plurality (with Barr's help) may be in the realm of possibility.
