Twelve Hours

Twelve Hours

Ok I'm going to keep this one short & sweet because I've just spent 12 hours on the phone banks at campaign headquarters and I'm zonked.  I went through both batteries on my Treo by 5pm and haven't checked my email so I haven't a clue as to what's happening with the results.  I hope all those phone calls paid off - I'll have to wait until Wednesday morning to find out.

I just wanted to fire up a brief post tonight to talk a little bit about the phone bank today, and the unsung heroes of any campaign - the folks staffing the phone banks.

Make the jump - there's a bit more...

No hyper-links or policy papers - no press statements or Fact Hub stuff tonight.  That can wait.

As many of you know, I work full time and have two small kids at home.  Hubby works 6 days a week so I'm home with the kids on Saturdays.  Sunday's our one day together as a family each week and after I get breakfast and check the Sunday talking heads shows, I kiss hubby and the kids and head on down to campaign headquarters to talk to voters in upcoming primary states.  Phone banking is tiring but its important work.  And if it means helping to put Hillary up and over the top in a state then I'll gladly give up my one day off with hubby and the kids to go in and make a difference.

Now everyone's probably heard of Hillary's top advisors, but the folks who help guide the volunteers really should get more of the credit.  Some of you fellow Hillary supporters (especially in the DC area) have probably gotten an email from the woman who runs the phone bank effort at HQ - her name's Adrienne Benson.  This young lady must run on pure adrenaline because every time I've gone in - whether it's on a Sunday afternoon or on a Tuesday when I've taken a day off work to help get out the vote on a primary day - Adrienne's always there.  Even today, when I logged in just over 12 hours, she was still urging us on.

Ten pm and there was still an hour left that we could call El Paso, and she was still urging us to keep on keepin' on.

So here's to Adrienne and her dedicated interns.  The young people who turn up every day to do all they can to help Hillary make it to the White House...

Anne
Nate
Russ
Melanie
Sabastian
Liani
Eva
Michael and
Melissa

Keep up the great work gang - I'll see you next Sunday afternoon!

Ok - can't type much more without massive numbers of typos.  I'll just wrap this up by asking you to donate $5 in honor of each of the dedicated folks in that phone bank room.

That's 10 names - $5 each = $50.00.

DONATE NOW!

Whattya say?!

Re: Don't Tip Me - Tip Hillary!

You have been a great advocate and volunteer worker for your candidate, alegre.  No matter what happens, you should be proud and know that you did all you could for her.

Re: Don't Tip Me - Tip Hillary!

I second that, alegre. Thank you for everything you've done and continue to do. And thanks to everyone who has worked, in whatever capacity, to support Hillary.

Just as you've been, Tom...

It's good to see you here again. Oh yes, and thanks for your words of encouragement. I think no matter what happens with this race, we'll all be proud of everything you and alegre and so many others here have done to advance our progressive cause. :-)

How 'bout I tip ALL OF YOU?

This has been one AWESOME night. Thanks to all of you, Hillary did what so many said was "impossible". And thanks to Hillary pulling off what all the corporate media pundits said was "impossible", we may very well still see this wonderful, beautiful, strong woman become OUR NEXT PRESIDENT. Horray! :-)

That's what I get

for paying attention to the predictions on the blogs. A lot of people got this one wrong as far as Texas and Ohio. I kept reading that she might win Ohio by as much as 5%, but would probably lose Texas in a squeaker. She was way up in Ohio when I went to bed last night, but Texas was still tied. So I woke up to a nice surprise this morning. I usually donate through your link Alegre, to show my appreciation for your dedication. I am going to do so again today, but not just for that reason. I have never posted a diary here before, but I will try to do so later to explain the reason for my donation this morning.

Re: Don't Tip Me - Tip Hillary!

Okay alegre, I gave.  Your enthusiasm is totally infectious.

My wife was so excited about the results last night!  I'm in favor of anything that makes her happy.

Re: Twelve Hours

Great work Alegre. This has been a hard fought contest and we won. Now I am sure that we need a little break just to rest for a little while. Then we will all come back fighting even harder.

Thank you for all of your work. It has taken the efforts of so many very dedicated supporters. Too many unsung heroes to name. But to the ones you have named please extend my sincere appreciation.

Re: Twelve Hours

This might be the first Hillary diary I've rec'd in months. What you say is true of all campaigns - it's the unpaid volunteers who make up the backbone of democracy and carry campaigns across the finish line, and there's no job more grueling than phonebanking. Oh, I hate it so much and have admiration for those who can slog through! Your point is a valuable one that is much appreciated, so since you don't bash the opposition, I recommend. :)

I just held my nose,
took some Gravol and went over to DailyObama tonight. They are going crazy over there! The nastiness is unbelievable. Who are these people, anyway? They don't seem sane......
I dislike Obama and don't trust him - but there is true hate against Hillary. It seems that she had the gall to go negative towards the Holy Father..... and winning tonight was a plot cooked up by Bush and Karl Rove.

She's got them riled up

I spent part of the evening over at DailyObama.  They're going bonkers there.  I ended up in an argument with a true Obamabot (not to offend any Obamans here) who insisted that Hillary Clinton was no different than George Wallace.  Here's the link (if you dare)

http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2008/3/ 4/23186/89008/289#c289

Unbelievable!

Re: She's got them riled up

Several days ago I abandoned the Big Orange Satan and I am so glad I did.  (The door's still open if I want back, but right now, it's so toxic that I cannot take it.)

I checked out your link.  Wow.  Those people are in-frikkin-sane.  The good news is, most Democrats aren't like that.  Even most Obama voters aren't like that.

On a side note, I have to admit to enjoying their whining and bitching and crying over there last night and this morning. :)

Re: She's got them riled up

I still go back for two reasons:  I like Top Comments (it's very friendly) and I just got returned to TU status (who knows how that happened) so now I can hand out some donuts.

But yeah, there's some folks with all campaigns who are doing their candidate no favors.  When I started here (not all that long ago) I indulged in the snarkiness too.  But I have decided that I need to be a better representative for my candidate.  I find myself thinking a lot about some of the obnoxious posters, wishing that I could tell them to their faces how their behavior damages their candidate.

Oh well.  I'm with you on enjoying the whining and crying.  Aren't you glad that schadenfruede is fat-free??

Good for you for taking the high road!

Tolerated, and in some cases encouraged

The worst part about that thread?

One donut (TR, HC, whatever they're calling them these days) in the entire thread.

One unfavorable rating in 25+ comments that compare Hillary Clinton to Karl Rove, George W Bush, and George Wallace.

In the old days, pre-primary season, these comments would've disappeared in nanoseconds.

The remaining Kossacks have entirely abandoned the 'community monitoring/enforcement' aspect of their site - that's why the lunatics have taken over.

And Markos isn't helping matters at all. His 'hands-off' policy is encouraging this lunacy, this vitriol, and is going to eventually turn DKos (if it isn't already) into a reeking, irrelevant site.

Thanks for the link, newhorizon. Now I

remember why I left that freak zone. Unbelievable what gets rec'd over there.

On another note, thankyou, Alegre, for all you do. I remember - gosh it seems like a long time ago  - over at "that orange place" when I was having second thoughts about my support for Obama. It was during the Donnie McClurkin days, and I remember reading your diairies regularly - and something just clicked. I've never looked back, and have grown to just love Hillary. I really believe anyone who makes an attempt to get past the media-made caricature of this woman will be very surprised at what they find.

We will not waver. We will not flinch. We are just getting started!

Re: Sen. Hillary Clinton: Yes. She. Will.

Nationally, 57% say Hillary Clinton is best prepared to be president, 39% Obama [CBS/ NYT, February 24]

·

Hillary Clinton is seen as best able to take on the Republicans on their own turf - national security and terrorism. She is seen as a strong and decisive leader (a seven point advantage over Obama nationally).

·

Hillary is seen as the one who can get the job done - leading Obama nationally by 13 points [USA Today/ Gallup, 2/24].

.

Hillary is seen as the candidate to solve the country's problems, leading Obama by 10 points [USA Today/ Gallup, 2/24].

.

Hillary Clinton leads both John McCain and Barack Obama on the economy and health care. In the latest LA Times/Bloomberg poll (1/22), Hillary leads McCain 52/28 on health care and 43/34 on the economy.

.

Hillary leads Barack Obama on health care by 21 points nationally [USA Today/Gallup, 2/24].

Re: Twelve Hours

Alegre, you have been an inspiration to me here and at Hillary's Bloggers.  Thanks for your incredible grit and determination in the face of what seemed just two days ago to be insurmountable odds.  I've given a few times over the last month, and will continue to do so.

Re: Twelve Hours

Alegre, thanks for posting this diary! My wife worked the phone bank at HHQ Monday night for 4 hours and came back exhausted and with numb fingers. She loved the experience, though, and is ready to help Hillary win PA.

Thanks to all who are helping Hillary! Let's get our country back!
