Standing Up to Republicans in Congress

Are you as disgusted as I am with the men and women of our Democratic Congress who've suddenly lost their ability to stand up against the Republicans as they did when campaigning? John Murtha seems to be the single, lonely Democratic figure who isn't afraid to take on George Bush along with his "rubber stamp" supporters in Congress. The American people are urging each member of the Democratic majority to speak out as John Murtha has done. You need to take the fight to all the Bush people who, through lies and devious manipulation, bear full responsibility for getting us into the Iraqi mess in the first place.
Up until now, our Democrats have not shown the intestinal fortitude to take the fight right back to those Republicans who continue to openly attack our judgement in dealing with Iraq. These are the same people who first told their constituents prior to the elections that they supported benchmarks and that the war in Iraq could not be won. Of course, now they sing a different tune and are trying to make George Bush's case for continuing the war which is against the wishes of the American people. These Republican detractors must be stopped in their tracks whenever they attempt to manipulate our Democratic policy proposals, discredit our congressional leaders or distort important facts as their track record bears out.
Bush and his "rubber-stamp" Congress had four solid years and over 400 billion dollars to end the hostilities and find a solution to this President's own ill-conceived plan which has resulted in the destruction and decimination of Iraq. Bush and his "rubber-stamp" Congress have failed miserably to end the Iraq war and their time has run out. Bush has accomplished nothing. Instead, we have lost over 3,000 brave men and women and placed an enormous strain on our military resources. Bush and his "rubber-stamp" Congress have made enemies of three-quarters of the world due to his flamboyant, emperial way of dealing with the rest of the world.
The American people displayed their anger on November 7th by deserting the Republican party and giving their full support to the Democratic candidates in their districts who had spoken out against the mishandling of the war, and promised them a new direction in Iraq., which meant establishing bench-mark intervals of bringing our boys back home.
Three significant events occurred immediately after the Republicans lost their majority in Congress:
First: President Bush forced the resignation of Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld.
Second: President Bush recalled the military commanders in Iraq who spoke of the futility of our remaining in Iraq.
Third: Within days after the new Congress convened, President Bush caught Congress and the American people
off-guard by announcing his new "Surge Strategy" for the Iraqi capitol of Baghdad. The President said that he was encouraged by his newly appointed commander in Iraq to introduce the new strategy as soon as possible. That the newly appointed General Petraus would need an additional 21,500 solders for the military operation. President Bush was emphatic when he told the American people of the possibility of the plan's failure but that he would know, within a few short months, whether the plan was working or not. The American people took this as an admission by the President that he would be willing to concede failure in Iraq and abide with the American Public's wishes that our troops begin their redeployment back home.
Our Democratic majority dare not act against the American people's wishes after they have made it perfectly clear that they want our involvement in Iraq to end as quickly as possible. The American people want troop redeployment to begin as soon as possible. Our Democratic Congress is duty bound to the American people to follow through with the campaign pledges they made before the election. We stand to lose all credibility if our Democrats in Congress continue to show signs of weakness. Our Democratic Congress must begin to act with more vigor than they have in the past
