NY-29: Manhattan Get Involved - Elect Eric Massa

Are we going to push netroots candidate Eric Massa over the top?

The Working Families Party is gearing up for our final weekend of phonebanking, and we want it to be the biggest yet.  Now is the time to pull out all the stops and elect Eric Massa to Congress.

Come to 330 West 42nd St (between 8th-9th Aves) in Manhattan (map here) and head up to the 7th floor.  We'll train you, give you a script, and get you on the phones.  You'll be using the latest internet predictive dialers, so you'll spend your time talking to voters instead of dialing numbers.

Times: Friday from 5pm to 9pm and Saturday through Election Day from 10am to 9pm

RSVP to Patrick at 917-862-2880 or tbcvolunteer@workingfamiliesparty.org or sign up online at http://www.workingfamiliesparty.org/call s

New Yorkers: make calls from Manhattan tonight at 5pm to NY-24

Looking for a way to get involved in this year's close Congressional elections?  Every night the Working Families Party is running phonebanks to call New York voters who will decide Congressional races.

You can make calls tonight - come to the Communications Center on the 7th floor at 330 W 42nd Street in Manhattan (map here) tonight at 5pm.  Look for Chris, he'll be wearing a dark blue shirt - if you don't see him then call him at 631-525-9012.  Chris will train you, give you a script, and set you up to make calls using the latest internet-based predictive dialing technology.  It's fun, you'll help Take Back Congress, and afterward we'll grab a beer!

Tonight we're starting with Utica voters and calling the rest of New York's 24th Congressional District throughout the night.  D-WFP Congressional candidate Mike Arcuri is running in the 24th for an open seat previously held by a Republican and is the sitting DA for Oneida County.  He's ahead in the polls, but the Republicans are unleashing a torrent of negative ads against him.

Call YOUR FRIENDS For Change

I think it's great that both Kos and Chris Bowers continue to push the importance of getting active in phonebanking to help get this majority in November.  I thought this was an opportune moment, then, to reiterate my post from a few days ago about TARGETED phonebanking by calling every single person in your cell phone address book.

You have to be polite when you call strangers, but you can yell and scream at your friends and family and say, "Dammit, get your ass to the polls!" We all know the arguments we can use to get our friends out to vote.  We need to take ownership.  I guarantee you the other side encourages this.  We need to do it, AND make it systematic.

So, like a good member of the netroots, I built a quickie website.  On the flip:

CT-Sen: Hitting the streets, with a side of phonebanking

(cross-posted at Deny My Freedom and Daily Kos)

After two weekends of canvassing in Stamford for Ned Lamont, I hit the pavement once again...in Stamford. It's probably not such a bad idea that we've been going to Stamford often, considering that it is Joe Lieberman's hometown. People-powered politics is about spreading the word, even if it's to the opponent's backyard. As you can see, though, it's in a markedly different location than where I canvassed last weekend. Instead of being in an upper-class neighborhood, today was about going into a neighborhood that was lower-class. Also different from last week was the demographics - whereas almost everyone I spoke to last week was Caucasian, this area of Stamford is ethnically diverse, largely dominated by ethnic African-Americans (many had French names) and Latinos. In my opinion, the area that we covered today will probably have some of the lowest turnout in the state. After that, with some extra time to spare, I did some phonebanking, where the response was more frequent - and quite a bit more positive - than the canvassing experience today. Follow me under the fold for the full story...

CT-Sen: Phonebanking to "kick the bums out"

(cross-posted at Deny My Freedom and Daily Kos)

Last weekend, I volunteered with the Ned Lamont for U.S. Senate campaign for the first time. My summer job is prohibitive to making monetary donations to candidates, and being a mere 15 minutes from Connecticut, I decided to stop sitting on my ass and go do my own part. Canvassing and phonebanking certainly isn't as noticeable as the efforts of deservedly-lauded bloggers such as Spazeboy and the bloggers who put together the "Kiss" buttons and the now-legendary "Kiss" float. Nevertheless, it's still a critical part of getting out the vote ahead of the August 8 primary, which, as the entrance to the 4th District office in Norwalk shows, is a mere 10 days away.

I got to the office a little too late to go canvassing up with most of the field staff in Bridgeport, so instead of baking in the hot, humid weather today, I got to do roughly 4 hours of phonebanking and had a great time chatting with the remaining staff and the volunteers who came in for the day.
