Hillary Endorsed By Groundbreaking IndyCar Driver Sarah Fisher

I understand this to be a significant endorsement among Indiana's working-class folks.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Hoosiers for Hillary today, opening day of practice for the 92nd Indianapolis 500, announced the endorsement of groundbreaking IndyCar Series driver and team owner, Sarah Fisher.

"We need a president who will stand up for us and be a fighter for Hoosiers and all Americans," said Fisher, who will attempt to qualify for her seventh Indianapolis 500 this May 2008. "Senator Clinton will be a president who steers our country in the right direction and puts our economy back on track. Something Senator Clinton and I have in common is our commitment to achieving our goals, leaving roadblocks behind, refusing to be knocked down. Senator Clinton is a doer and a fighter who keeps getting out there, going for the checkered flag."

Fisher, 27, of Indianapolis, has competed in six Indianapolis 500s. She is the first woman to earn a pole position at an IndyCar Series event. Fisher is also the youngest woman ever to compete in the Indianapolis 500 at age 19 and the fastest female to qualify for the world's greatest race, with a four-lap average of 229.439 mph in 2003. She is the first female owner/driver of an IndyCar Series team and will compete in her next Indianapolis 500 on May 25.

"I'm honored to have Sarah's support. Not only has she has broken down barriers in her sport, but she continues to be a role model for young people aspiring to realize their dreams," Senator Clinton said. "Trailblazers like Sarah prove that with hard work and determination, anything is possible in our country."

Fisher will debut her new team, Sarah Fisher Racing, on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 12:00 p.m., when she beings practice for the Indianapolis 500.

Uh - Oh...Indiana...does this mean bye - bye to VP Bayh?

Mayor Bart Peterson lost last night in a race over urban crime and taxes....wow ...since Indy was the Dems stronghold, not only for Marion County but the entire state does that mean that we should just give up on Indiana during the Presidential 08 campaign?

I mean when was the last time a Democrat won that state, under Wilson?

I thought that Evan Bayh had the best chance to be chosen VP this cycle, because maybe just maybe Indy was in play and a win there would guarantee us the White House...now what does this election do to that rational?

I mean with no chance for the state's electoral votes, what's the point of picking Bayh?

We need MORE independent video!

I feel like there is a lot of good things going on these days, alot of grassroots organizing, alot success stories. But how do we get these success stories told? How do we make sure more people know the positive things that are happening.  After all I think cyncism and apathy are our real enemies.

I think independent media orgs are doing a great job, but we need to reach a larger audience, so that people know there is hope, that there is an alternative. I think we need to take advantage of video as a mass media on the internet.

Check out these online independent news videos

And there is also a Free "Video Alert Service".
http://www.coanews.org/lists/index.php?p =subscribe Once a week, email subscribers get the latest news videos for a diverse group of independent media outlets (democracyNow!, G Channel et and FreeSpeech!..) sent to their inbox.

You can sign up for free email video alerts here:

But again; how can we reach more people with this media?

I think that independent media orgs, need to focus more on video (like Freespeech does), but beyond that we need to find a way to disseminate them to a larger audience.

Online video is taking off right now, and we need to position ourselves so that independent media is an established and accessible part of the landscape.  Corporate media outlets, and advertising agencies, are drumping boatloads of money to ensure they are established online video distributors, while also trying to narrow the range of video available.

We need to raise funds (more people donating, and becoming members of indy media orgs)for independent media so they can compete.  Perhaps indy media orgs could have citizen coalition groups to take an active role in rallying people to raise funds.  I believe PBS and NPR have groups like this, so why can't we do the same.
-maybe a trust or fund controlled by citzens?

-but we also need a grassroot movment to help disseminate their content, and keep the internet open.  Part of this is simply using any way possible to promote the online video that is produced by indy meida orgs - use your website, blogs, email lists, classes, workers groups etc...

There is no time to waste
