LYING: Cadets violate the Honor Code by lying if they deliberately deceive another by stating an untruth or by any direct form of communication to include the telling of a partial truth and the vague or ambiguous use of information or language with the intent to deceive or mislead.

Wow. It's amazing the things people will tell themselves. Yesterday, in Chris Matthews' takedown of the McCain campaign's "lipstick on a pig" attack, while he was tough on the McCain campaign for lying about Barack's comments, he did let this doozy fly (h/t TPM):
"I do have a tremendous amount of faith in John McCain's integrity. He used to be on the show all the time ... I don't believe he'd sit where you're sitting and call his opponent or say his opponent called his running mate a pig. I don't believe he'd say that. So i wonder why his people agreed to do that ... This is a claim I don't think the candidate himself would make."
Yet that's exactly what he did when he said "My name is John McCain and I approved this message." But even with that, another McCain mythologist, James Carville, echoed Chris's sentiments on CNN.
This is pathetic. Here is a so-called Democratic strategist, presumably serving as an Obama surrogate (he was on the show with a Republican after all) saying this shit?
But I have to say, there's something comical about it too. These guys would rather believe that John McCain is completely and utterly impotent when it comes to running his own presidential campaign, essentially that he is merely a puppet at the whim of evil consultants, than to let this ridiculous notion of the "honorable John McCain" die. Really, that's their defense, well at least he didn't know what his own campaign was doing! Either option makes John McCain unfit for the presidency (read Andrew Sullivan's excellent take on this HERE.)
But Jane xplains why Carville's words matter:
You're kidding me, right? The Republicans have made this campaign about character, once again. They've smeared Obama with the ugliest, most disgusting, distorted ads we've seen since Willie Horton, and what does Carville do? He lets McCain off the hook.
I often had issues with Obama's surrogates and their ridiculous lack of message discipline during the primaries. The inability or unwillingness of the Obama campaign to impose some discipline on them struck me as a real liability, one that I thought he'd remedied for the general. Maybe not so much.
Senator Obama, please get Carville off the teevee now or get him on message.
The world is truly upside down when you go to Joe Klein for a dose of sanity:
I just can't wait for the moment when John McCain--contrite and suddenly honorable again in victory or defeat--talks about how things got a little out of control in the passion of the moment. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.
So everyone knows that some have chosen to make diaries bashing Bill Clinton's economy, either crediting "lies" that never happened, or crediting only the dot-com bubble, which is absolutely specious. The economy under Bill Clinton did well because he took the steps needed to end the deficit which was to raise taxes on the rich big time: this in turn fixed up the bond markets which in turned fueled the economic boom we knew back then. Ever Republican in both houses voted against it. Unfortunately for them, the economy took off, and the budget deficit died. Bill Clinton did that by telling the truth to the American people how tax cuts for the rich were why the deficit was so high and the economy bad.
Bill Clinton also fixed the economy by signing the Family Medical Leave Act, which made it possible for women to take leave while they took care of their child, he also raised the earned income tax credit. This in turn lifted people out of poverty, which fell in every demographic group in terms of race and gender. The dot-com boom only helped the rich. It didn't change the lives of most of the working Americans who went out of poverty under President Clinton.
More countries chose to invest in us due to the deficit Clinton ended. 22 million new jobs because they knew we wouldn't go under like we would have under Bush Sr. had he got another term. Was he a free trader? YES he was, but eveyr living former President supported NAFTA too, and Bush I negotiated it. Welfare reform got those people on welfare into jobs, ending welfare as we knew it, making welfare what it was always meant to be: a second chance, not a way of life. It was indeed Bill Clinton's truths which fueled the economy of the '90's. I hope the radical Kos-like Clinton haters get that.

Today, Memorial Day, I honor the American heros who have laid their lives on the front lines for the love of our country. I honor the soldiers -- past and present -- who have battled our enemies, and often paid a tragic price. They have paid with their lives, their mental or physical health, the heartbreak of loved ones.
I have never lost a loved one to war, and so I have immense respect and gratitude towards those who have personally suffered to keep our country free and peaceful. For our soldiers, for the sacrifice they and their families have made -- I am eternally proud and thankful.
It is in this spirit that I salute "the enemy," John McCain, war hero and patriot. An honored veteran, a man of great courage and dignity who endured unimaginable suffering on America's behalf.
In the heat of political battles, it's easy to forget Senator McCain's legacy. Thank you, John McCain, for your service and your sacrifice.
I salute you, and all the brave women and men who have served our country with honor.
As we all know Hillary Clinton has told us about the bravery she, her teenage daughter, sinbad, and sheryl crow faced over-seas. They faced iminate danger. Snipers were around every corner trying to take them out. I would not be suprised based on Hillary's shocking and awe inspiring tale if they had bullets flying at them upon landing and bomb strapped terrorists constantly trying to get near these heroes.
What is most amazing is Sinbad, someone not even associated with the White House or the military would risk life and limb to go on this dangerous mission, a mission that perhaps even a James Bond would not be able to survive (but of course our great tough leader, Hillary Clinton came out of this horrible life threating ordeal a strong leader).
The fact Sinbad risked so much when he had nothing to gain shows a true hero. For this Bill Clinton should have, nay, MUST HAVE given him the medal of freedom. Why was there no outrage when Sinbad was not honored for his brave service for our nation?
President Clinton awarded Gen. Clark with the medal, why not Sinbad who risked just as much if not more so?
