The path to Democratic Party Unity has one track.  It leads to serious party reform to try to undo as much of the Party destruction that has happened the last year as the leadership plowed further and further away from the basic Party values.  And the rest is clear in this open letter to Hillary written by an Independent, just the sort of Independent the Democratic Party needs to attract and have "unity" with. She titled it:

I am 44 years old, and was never much interested in politics. So, you know, when all this primary stuff started a year ago, I really didn't have much interest in any of the candidates specifically, only "let's get anyone else in there other than Bush". But, I started watching the debates and reading up on all the candidates.  In a perfect, ideal world, we wouldn't be voting for a person because of their "Party" and friends, we would be voting for that individual who has a track record of crossing those very lines and trying to get the important things we all want in life: health, wealth, harmony and happiness, regardless of, gasp, party affiliation. Quite quickly, I realized Senator Clinton was head and shoulders above Obama and the others, on every issue, on judgment, character and certainly experience. She frankly blew me away with her command of the issues. I found myself picking the person that has a track record of what I am looking for. That person is Senator Clinton. She has worked hard and diligently for all Americans, and spent years (35) building strong relationships because she has a passionate vision of what America can be. She became MY candidate. "Hill-R-We", became my mantra.

When I read that the "party leaders were tired" of the Clinton campaign bringing up the FL & MI votes for the past few weeks, I thought: well, E-X-C-U-S-E ME! I am tired of not having a say in a Presidential election, I am tired of not having my vote count, I am tired of no insurance, I am tired of little business in a struggling economy, and I am REALLY tired of some out-of-touch, well-paid, Washington fatcats deciding they know more than their constituents! The straw that broke this voter's back was the way the DNC mishandled the FL and MI votes. That is NOT democracy, NOT the values of the Democratic Party and certainly NOT my values! The media has mounted the most biased, blatant one-sided campaign for Obama that frankly reeks of more than just voter suppression. What happened to journalistic integrity?

Since I have posted some dissenting views to Obama's nomination on myDD, based on the fact that a) he does not have a comprehensive health care coverage plan and this affects me directly and b) I have had Department of Labor disputes with an associate of Senator Obama that I have had to escalate to the Federal level because institutions in the State of Illinois are not taking action against anyone related to the Senator who are engaged in illegal activity. I have a right to protect my rights and get back wages I am owed.

Maybe those of you who are harassing me and have rich parents don't really understand what it is like to be bilked out of two months pay. I have a right to fight for my wages.

I want to let all the Obama supporters out there who I have told to stop contacting me with your threats. I don't want to talk to you. You ruined that relationship when I was working with you on the campaign in PA. Your elitism blew it for Obama. I have now escalated this no contact by contacting the police about this.

Maybe some of Obama's people out there do not know what it is like to not have health insurance or what it is like to actually be poor and pay for school on your own. That gives you no right to harass anyone who does not have the same degree of opportunity that you have in life and expresses their views freely about it.

This is the kind of behavior that is dividing the party. Harassing people when you have been told not to contact is illegal.

Obama campaign, your supporters are getting you into trouble. I have made a complaint to the DNC today.

My battle buddy from the Army is working for the McCain campaign. If Obama's campaign does not intervene immediately, in addition to escalating these issues, I will take all the dirt directly to him.

Quite frankly, most of the Obama people do not behave any differently than entitled Republicans and that is what is pissing off Hillary people.

Stop calling my phone. You know who you are.

I am about to undergo serious surgery for removal of a cyst, paying for it is a concern and it has attuned me to the issue of national health care and the lack of a plan coming from the Obama camp. I have a right to do that.

You youngsters need a good spanking so you can get some sensitivity in your blood.

On the heels of a series of incidents in California where female nurses have been followed and harassed by mostly male SEIU staffers, and in the wake of SEIU's violent attack on the peaceful Labor Notes conference, a California Superior Court has issued a temporary restraining order against Andy Stern, President of SEIU, and his staff, ordering them to stay away from nurses with the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee.  

Stern will appear in court on May 1st for a hearing on whether to issue a permanent restraining order.SEIU claims its actions are in retaliation for a disputed election in Ohio where Catholic Healthcare Partners filed for an election to choose SEIU as their company union.  

SEIU's recent actions makes clear why RNs around the country do not have a good opinion of their organization.

As a CNA RN I want to preface this statment put out last night by the organizers of the Labor Notes conference with a feminist perspective about this situation. The leaders and members of CNA/NNOC are 95% female as is the nursing profession. Our organization has a feminist, shared governing structure with an elected board of 35 direct-care RNs and a new presidency model called the "Council of Presidents" which is a shared presidency of 4 RNs (all women) As a women’s organization we believe disputes are best resolved through discussions not violent confrontations In an escalation on Friday, women leaders of CNA/NNOC were harassed at home by SEIU staff. Then yesterday, 800 SEIUers literally crashed through security and broke up the Labor Notes conference in Detroit. The pictures, posted in the next comment speak volumes about how extreme was this assault directed at Rose Ann DeMoro and women leaders of CNA/NNOC. In order to be in California to respond to the harassment at leaders’ homes, Rose Ann did not attend the conference. Service Union Staffers Went to Homes Thursday of CNA Leaders

The California Nurses Association/National Nurses Association today condemned the Service Employees International Union for targeting CNA/NNOC leaders and members with threats and intimidation, stalking them at home and in patient care units at hospitals.

In a statement today, CNA/NNOC--the nation's largest RN union-- demanded SEIU International President Andrew  Stern "immediately renounce the actions of SEIU staff and cease and desist these despicable attacks against anyone who speaks out against his pro-corporate agenda."
