Sorry Chris, But You've Got to Be Called on This.

Chris Bowers recently put this entry in Breaking Blue:

PA-Sen: Green Party Resorts to Violence (Chris Bowers)

I guess being funding entirely by conservatives and having your signatures collected by Santorum staffers wasn't principled and progressive enough for the Pennsylvania Green Party. Now, they have resorted to violence. Classy, principled stuff.

But follow the link Chris provided and this is what the article says:

The fight broke out early on the fifth day of counting, although witnesses disputed who started it and who broke it up.

Classy and principled indeed.

Others may think anything is OK in politics, but I for one don't like being mislead in the interest of party-line propaganda. Keep it up and not only will Chris Bowers squander his own credibility, but damage that of MyDD as well. And credibility once gone will be difficult to regain.

And before anyone accuses me of being Green or a sympathizer, let me say say I don't give a flying fish about the Greens, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, or LaRoucheniks. What their practical effect on elections is and what are the best ways to deal with it can be debated (along with the even worse effect of DLCers like Ed Rendell), but what shouldn't need to be debated is that honesty is the best policy.

Illinois Greens unite to elect republicans

Illinois greens report that they will field a full slate of candidates.   This means that the probability that Illinois will go republican in the next election is much much higher.

Thank You Daily Kos - I have found my NEW home

Yesterday I posted a diary on DailyKOS. You can go read it there, but if you do please come back here since I have been kicked off DailyKOS and will not be able to post any comments there anymore.

As a result of the discussion and comments about my diary I am happy to announce that I have changed my registration to the Green Party. I also canceled my Democracy Bond and will not be giving any more money to the Democratic Party in the future.

I don't know how long this diary will last on MyDD, but I think that it is an important issue involving our entire political system and the fate of our country. I will attempt to diary my experience yesterday and my rationale for switching parties for those who are interested. I will also try to respond to those that posted questions in the comments yesterday.

Reaching Out to the Green Party in Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, the Democrats have a chance to reach a hand out to the Green Party in a vital Congressional race.  Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District is one of the nation's most competitive districts.  In 2004 Democrat John Kerry won the 15th district in very close race, as narrowly did Republican Congressional candidate Charlie Dent for an open seat.

This year, as Freshman Dent seeks reelection, the Democrats have failed to produce a single candidate for the congressional race, let alone one viable one.  The Greens, however, are running a local girl, Greta Browne.  Given the failure of the Democrats, this may be the chance for the Green Party to capitalize.

If Pennsylvania's Democratic Party reaches out to the Greens and choose to endorse Browne, the district will have a progressive choice in November, and given the political atmosphere of the day, it may not be as difficult as it once seemed for a third party candidate to triumph and for voters to kick out another Republican.

With the Lehigh Valley cities of Allentown, Easton, and Bethlehem in the district, there is plenty of progressive support, and, as a local, I believe people in this district may be willing to consider a fresh alternative.

By throwing their weight behind Greta Browne, the Democrats and Greens together will be able to put another progressive woman in office.  It would be a real shame for this seat to fall to the republicans without a real contest.

Why your vote counts -- John Conyers as House Judiciary Chair.

This is directed at anybody who thinks that their vote will not be important in the next election for whatever reason. It doesn't matter whether you are a Green disgusted at what you see as a lack of spine by the Democrats or a former Hackett supporter disgusted at what you see as an insular establishment who determines the candidates for Senate in smoke-filled backrooms. You are missing the key point as to why it is so important that you go to the polls and vote for a Democrat. You forget that a vote for a Democrat for Senate or the House is a vote for John Conyers as chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
