We are currently being hit with a Denial of Service attack. We're got lots of people fighting the attack and working to get the site back up. Thank you for your patience.

Even on the largest "Democratic" grassroots website in the world, there are blatantly undemocratic actions taking place.
My mistake was trying to tackle it head-on, without realizing that just like any place on the Internet, people with control will do anything to exact revenge on you, ruin your reputation, and silence your voice.

On Wednesday at DailyKos, and on the main page here for awhile, there was an article at the top of the Rec list entitled "Home Depot Founder to CEOs: You 'Should Be Shot'". It talks about a man named Bernie Marcus, who was one of the co-founders of The Home Depot in 1979. Apparently, he said something stupid today- that any CEOs who didn't support the GOP "should be shot". Obviously, no need for me go on about what's stupid about that statement. But the level of knee-jerk, irresponsible reaction to that statement today made me remember why I'm a former member of Free Republic and RedState, and the Republican Party as a whole.
I don't know... I always held the netroots on a higher level of responsibility than those jerks. Progressives are supposed to be the ones interested in discourse, not demagoguery- right?

It's out. On popular request I'm letting you all know that my a version of my 'Journal of the Flame Wars' has now been published in Prospect Magazine .
As with all such articles, they get cut for length, subbed and simplified, and this is even more true in a British publication where the Netroots has to be explained as Blogosphere 101. There are a lot of things - a history of snark, mentions of other bloggers that have been cut because of length and complexity.
Sorry guys. I tried to mention a lot of you. But the editors found it confusing. It really needs a longer piece to get the whole story. Maybe I should write a book
I hope you enjoy despite this. In the fierce urgency of defeating McCain Palin, I don't want to reignite any unnecessary and ancient flame wars, so the only two issues I want to comment on are these...

Has anyone been having deja vu lately?
I'm not just referring to the re-emergence of deadly hurricanes with eyes trained on the Gulf. And I don't just mean the recycling of the same old Republican playbook being dumped on Senator Obama this election season.
Instead, as yet another potentially razor-tight presidential race looms, I can't help but recall 2000. I admit it: the prospect of an electoral fiasco this time around has haunted my dreams.
The tantalizing scenarios, below the fold. (Disclaimer:I seek neither to depress you, nor to divert your attention from the hard work ahead. Just glimpsing the potential for a 2008 debacle, rather, should incentivize us to avoid one all the more.)
