Stop Huckabee NOW!

It just goes to show, even for so-called "family values" right wingers in Missouri, IOKIYAR. I read this item in Sunday's Kansas City Star:
....The Mike Huckabee bandwagon appears to be racing through Missouri.[emphasis added]On Monday, Missouri backers of Huckabee are set to announce endorsements from 27 state lawmakers. Among them are a slew of Kansas City-area Republicans, including state Sen. Matt Bartle of Lee's Summit and state Reps. Brian Baker of Belton, Will Kraus of Raytown, Brian Yates of Lee's Summit and Bob Nance of Excelsior Springs....
*it's okay if you're a republican
The paper's resident political stenographer did mention that Jeff Roe, notorious republican poltical operative, is on board with Huckabee's Missouri campaign, but neglected to mention the irony of the juxtaposition of those "family values" republican politicians with the former Arkansas governor's previous history with Missouri.
The Missouri problem: As governor of Arkansas Huckabee intervened with the state board of pardons and paroles to release Wayne Dumond who had been convicted of raping a young woman who just happened to be a distant relative of Bill Clinton. The Dumond case had become a cause for right wingnuts. Dumond was released and moved to Missouri where he raped and murdered at least one woman. Dumond was convicted in Missouri and later died in prison.

Many progressives are familiar with the case of Wayne Dumond, the convicted rapist who was paroled at Governor Mike Huckabee's urging and went on to rape and kill again. Dumond was in jail for raping a distant cousin of Bill Clinton's, and a vocal right-wing campaign had claimed Dumond was innocent and urged Huckabee to pardon him. The story has, thankfully for those who value the truth, been making its way into the mainstream media more often of late.
Just this past Sunday, Huckabee repeated his oft-heard excuse that there was no way anyone could have predicted Dumond might be a threat to other women if he was released:
While on the campaign trail, Huckabee has claimed that he supported the 1999 release of Wayne Dumond because, at the time, he had no good reason to believe that the man represented a further threat to the public. Thanks to Huckabee's intervention, conducted in concert with a right-wing tabloid campaign on Dumond's behalf, Dumond was let out of prison 25 years before his sentence would have ended."There's nothing any of us could ever do," Huckabee said Sunday on CNN when asked to reflect on the horrific outcome caused by the prisoner's release. "None of us could've predicted what [Dumond] could've done when he got out."
But superstar investigative reporter Murray Waas has put the lie to Huckabee's excuses. Waas has made public, for the first time, confidential Arkansas government records proving that Huckabee knew Dumond was a serial rapist - including letters from other rape victims of Dumond, begging Huckabee not to grant parole to Dumond.

A sitting governor intervenes in the parole process, setting up the release of an individual who then goes on to commit another horrible crime. Sound familiar? Well, our political media will only cover a story like that if that governor is running for president, right? Think again.
The Kansas City Star's resident political stenographer writes this gem in today's paper [tiny URL]:
....Stick this one in your bonnet: Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will win either the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses or the New Hampshire primary.Whaaaat? You've never heard of Huck?
Get him on your radar screen. Huckabee has supplanted John McCain as the hot GOP contender on the circuit these days....
Of course, our political chattering classes can't be bothered to do a little bit of research:
....Suttlar noted that just prior to Huckabee's appearance before the board the board had voted 4-1 against Dumond's parole. After Huckabee's board appearance, her colleagues largely reversed themselves, voting 4-1 for Dumond's release."Why did all the votes change?" Suttlar asked. The board members knew the governor's position. And Huckabee knows what influence a governor has over a board. Who's going to turn down a governor?"
A board member, who only agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, said, "We are not talking rocket science here. The board jobs are known to some degree [to be] political patronage...
