From the moment I realized that the Supreme Court was going to decide the election for Bush in 2000 and that Florida's elections were fraudulent, to the moment I realized Bush was warned about 9/11 before it happened but ignored it, to the moment I realized Bush also ignored the approach of Hurricane Katrina, despite warnings, to the fact that Osama bin Laden is still free and Bush honestly doesn't care about capturing him, my main emotion regarding how our country is being run has been anger. I am mad as hell at how Republicans have deliberately mismanaged this country, more interested in their own greed and self-interest than in actually governing.
As the nightmare of the Bush years nears an end, it might be worth reviewing the magnitude of the disaster his administration has been on America. This is not an all-inclusive list. There are just too many Republican failures for one person to cover.

I am back from vacation and back into the political arena. Next week I hope my friend, Devin Cohen, succeeds getting elected as a civil court judge in Brooklyn. And I hope another friend, Steve Harrison, gets the nomination for Congress in the NY-13 district. I hope any readers in those districts can help out! As the remnants of Gustav bear down on NYC and Hanna and Ike approach the US, I hope everyone is staying dry and safe.
Notice how Sarah Palin, not John McCain, was the big story of the week from the Repub Convention? I am so pleased that we are finally at a point in history where even the Repubs are willing to nominate a woman to VP, more than 2 decades after the Dems did. And I am pleased to live at a time when America will finally get either a woman VP or a black president. That is very real progress. But...

Haven't been around MyDD for a long time. Not sure why. Oddly, MyDD dissing on Daily Kos reminded me of you guys. So I decided to come back here for a bit, time permitting.
My main goal is hitting McCain...and hitting him hard. Another of my main issues is the neglect of America by Republicans, as exemplified by Hurricane Katrina. Although I have done versions of this before, this particular version was inspired by a Daily Kos Diary. Katrina, Bush, McCain...and cake.

Wendy Wilde says Hastert lacks the moral leadership to serve as Speaker and asks him to resign from Congress. She had this to say:
The House leadership failed the public, failed teenagers under their supervision, betrayed the trust of American parents, and allowed their colleague to continue harmful behavior under their watch. They need to step down immediately."
Full press release below the fold.

We're posting the full press release here in the interests of time. We're mainly a volunteer operation. This issue hits very close to home for us at Wilde for Congress. Wendy's founded a non-profit teen center and been a long-time volunteer on children and youth activities. I'm a clergy-abuse survivor and serve as a youth advisor and religious education teacher at my church. Oh, and BTW, Wendy hit her $50K goal last night!
Wendy Wilde, DFL candidate for Congress in Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District, called on Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert to resign for his role in covering up the activities of the sexual predator Congressman Mark Foley of Florida.
"It is inconceivable to me that Speaker Hastert and other key member of the Republican leadership knew about Congressman Foley's inappropriate contact with teenage pages and yet continued to allow Congressman Foley to serve as Co-Chair of the House Committee on Missing and Exploited Children As a High School teacher and coach, Speaker Hastert is a mandated reporter. It is absolutely inconceivable to me as a mother, and as the founder of a non-profit teen center, that Speaker Hastert would put kids at risk in the interest of political power". This is another example of the kinds of incompetence and secrecy which have no place in our democracy."
