TDS Destroys McCain in Best Bush Clone Montage To Date

Stewart begins the clip with a $300K+ Cindy McCain outfit that would make the Cash Money Millionaires blush. Then he points out the errant stagecraft (Walter Reid Middle school, Lindsey Graham extolling victory with a cemetery backdrop, etc), impales Palin for her 27 million dollars earmark panhandle and exposes the hypocrisy of Veterans mocking Kerry's Vietnam service at one RNC convention, while soaking up McCain's POW-ness at another.

But the best part is at 4:20 (coincidence) into the clip. In this segment, Daily Show probably takes the cake for Bush/McCain cloned footage montage. This is as ad-worthy as it gets.

This is not my America

It's really quite ugly in St. Paul as both Garrison Keillor and Glenn Greenwald comment about it over at Salon.com.(Link to video of girl holding flower being pepper-sprayed and hit by riot baton is at the bottom of this diary.)

Then again, when Donna Brazile gets pepper-sprayed on her way into St. Paul's Xcel Center, to do a CNN gig, I guess that says quite a bit all by itself!

Here's Keillor's overview (dated tomorrow, Sept. 3rd) of what's going on 'down the hill' in his hood:

Oregon's Republican Delegates: Who are these fools?

The following is a brief summary of whom the Oregon Republican delegates are that are supposedly going to Minneapolis/St. Paul this week for their convention.  Obviously, I send along my most fervent prayers (even though I'm a Unitarian) for the victims of Hurricane Gustav not only those in the US who are yet to be hit but those throughout the Caribbean.  Still, they should at least nominate McSame and I thought it would be fun to discover who these people are.

You Want a Telethon, GOP? Then Do It with Obama

McCain chairman Rick Davis, together with a televised address from John McCain, just finished his press conference with reporters about the future of the Republican National Convention this year in the face of hurricane Gustav.  The upshot is that all plans are up in the air, with the exception of the formal party business on Monday of getting a quorum to officially nominate John McSame and Sarah Quaylin.

Of course, the GOP cannot afford politically to appear to be engaged in convention festivities as the Gulf Coast drowns--once again--due to their criminal negligence.  But if they cancel the convention, they won't get the bounce John McCain needs to stay competitive as Obama heads into September with a 6 point lead in Gallup's already McCain-friendly poll.

KS-Sen: Roberts Gets Skittish About His Party Affiliation

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey out of Kansas shows incumbent Republican Senator Pat Roberts leading former Democratic Congressman Jim Slattery, who is a member of the MyDD Road to 60 Act Blue page, by a 56 percent to 37 percent margin (down from a 61 percent to 33 percent lead in the previous poll). But if you think these numbers say everything about this race, you had better think again. Roberts is indeed worried -- just look at what he won't be doing next month.

Sen. Pat Roberts (KS) is now the eighth Republican senator to announce that they will not attend the GOP Convention in St. Paul, Minn., next month.

Roberts spokeswoman told the Topeka Capital Journal today that Roberts will be campaigning that week, finishing up his 105 county statewide tour during the convention week.

Four others who've announced they won't be attending are -- Ted Stevens (AK),  Elizabeth Dole (NC), Gordon Smith (OR), and Susan Collins (ME). All are running for re-election and are in close races. (Collins may have the easiest race, but she's never been a close ally of McCain.)

Despite the fact that Roberts apparently holds a decent lead in head-to-head polling (though those numbers are at least in part reflective of the fact that his campaign has been on air in the state quite heavily in recent months) and that the Democrats have not won a Senate election in Kansas since 1932, Roberts is worried enough about his chances at reelection that he won't attend the Republican National Convention. Incumbents not worried about winning another term don't shy away from their party, particularly when they represent states seemingly heavily tilted in favor of their party. These actions speak loudly, indicating that Slattery does have a real shot at victory. If you'd like to help him out, head over to Act Blue today and make your voice heard.
