Hastert's Page Hotline: A Trap for Dems?

So Speaker Denny Haster has announced a Toll Free "Tipline" for any pages to report abuses in the past.  They will be protected and leads will be followed up.  Now why would Hastert and the Republicans do this instead of the FBI?  Because they need more names -- more members with "Page Issues" -- and if all goes well for the GOP, some of those names will be Democrats.

There have been reports that other pages have been contacting ABC about experiences with other members of the House. Since those sources are protected, the GOP obviously wants any information taht could implicate others, especially Democrats, so that they can make this a bi-partisan scandal.

So where is the tipline located?...

Breaking News: Rove Really A Democratic Plant!

It has been confirmed by unconfirmed sources that Karl Rove, AKA "The Architect" is actually a plant for the DNC and that Jack Abramoff in actuality is a deep cover operative for a super secret black operations unit called "Black October." The confirmed, unconfirmed source, only known as "Dieb-Throat," with whom I personally met in an undisclosed location, okay it was a McDonald's, stated that this operation was the actual brain child of Howard Dean and that the infamous Dean Yell was actually the cover Dean needed in order to be taken out of consideration for the Presidential Ticket and handed the ultimate reigns of power as the chairman of the DNC. When asked by this writer how that could be, Dieb-Throat stated emphatically, "You think the POSTUS actually calls the shots for the Republicans? Wake up and smell the coffee. It's always been Ken Melhman at the helm of this juggernaut."

Hastert/Foley Pagegate Scandal from the Blog of John Laesch Candidate for IL 14th Democratic

Response to Hastert/Foley Pagegate Scandal

Our campaign office reports that the phone has not stopped ringing all day and the Inbox on our e-mail account is exploding.

We know that Dennis Hastert has been the "cover-up" guy for everything that is wrong in Washington.  Hastert has been cleaning up messes all the way from this Wednesday's "get out of jail free" detainee bill that he gave to George Bush to gutting house ethics rules after Tom DeLay was indicted.

I am currently working with Danny Stover who is running against Shimkus in Illinois' 19th District to hold a near-term press conference.  If you want to help Danny Stover get a $400 plane ticket to Chicago, you can donate here http://www.stoverforcongress.com/

It is time for both of these gentlemen to do the right thing for America and resign

Congress, Settle Your Unfinished Ethics Business

Most people who follow the news on Capitol Hill are generally not surprised by what they see and hear in the news. But the developing story around former Rep. Mark Foley, R-FL, who resigned Sept. 29 after news broke that he had sent sexually graphic e-mails and instant messages to a House page, left me even more shocked.

First, there's the spectacle of the co-chairman of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus talking about masturbation with a boy less than one-third Foley's age.

But the more disturbing thing is that several members in the House Republican leadership apparently knew about Foley's actions LAST YEAR, and did virtually NOTHING to stop it. Those members include House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-IL, House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-OH; and Reps. Thomas Reynolds, R-NY (the chairman of the House Republican Congressional Committee) and John Shimkus, R-IL, who heads the House Page Board.

Was Foley In Line to be Chairman of the Page Board?

Based on remarks made by Rep. John Shimkus on the House floor in June 2004, it is possible that Rep. Mark Foley was in line to be the chairman of the Page Board.

On June 3, 2004, Rep. Foley and Rep. Shimkus were thanking that year's graduating page class for their services:

[Rep Foley speaking]: "....God bless you. I wish you well, have a great life, and thank you for your service to this Congress.

Mr. SHIMKUS. Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for his chance to share with you.

Did he not mention that maybe it might be your high privilege and honor to be the chairman of the Page Board some year? He always leaves that off. I do not know why that is."

Technically the grammar makes it possible that Rep. Shimkus is refering to the Speaker Pro Tempore.  But what is more likely, given the context, was that Rep. Shimkus said, in essence: "Mr Speaker...Mr. Foley always leaves off...[turns to Foley] that you might be chairman of the Page Board one day." So this one might require video.

As we know from ABC News, Republican leadership knew about Foley for 5 years.  But a little over 2 years ago it is possible that he was being considered to chair the House Page Board.   Which to me is unbelievable.
