Excuse my French

I'm not the most prolific diarist or commenter, but anyone familiar with my contributions knows something about my temperament.  I've cheered our field of candidates since before any of them announced.   I've contributed long essays where I've tried to be constructive in both praising and criticizing my favorite candidate, John Edwards.

I've tried to be very respectful toward other members of this community.  On those occasions when I think someone's made a particularly inane remark, the harshest you might expect from me is satire, not bile.

In other words, to use an old-fashioned idiom, I've kept a civil tongue in my head.

But not in this post. Because some members of this community have gone beyond the pale, and I don't feel like being at all polite toward them. I'm talking about this comment and response - the latter by someone who is accorded frontpage posting privileges on this blog.  I'm not going to blockquote their comments, because they don't deserve to be quoted.  They are shitty comments.  And the original commenter continues to smear this fecal matter in a new thread today.

Bill Clinton a Reluctant Drug Warrior ?

On Sep 6, 1989 Rep. Don Edwards, D-CA said that if then President George H. W. Bush's proposals for punishing drug users and expanding drug testing in the work place were passed into law then  ``American would become a police state.``

Well it passed almost unanimously I might add and Edwards proved to be a visionary because we do indeed live in a Police State. In fact it's far worse today than what the first President Bush pushed through 17 years ago. Due to the hysterical climate created by the Reagan-Bush drug war CA Rep. Edwards was one of the very few voices of reason left in Congress at the time.

The GOP has turned us into a Nation of Rats

Today we have Neo-Cons like Michelle Malkin proudly proclaiming that she would turn in her neighbors If she suspected that they were here illegally she also advocated that other Americans should do the same and that it was the patriotic thing to do. Turning in one's neighbor was once and still should be considered Un-American. Obviously if your neighbor is John Wayne Gacy or Jeffery Dahmer then thats a whole different matter.

Nancy Reagan Looks Pretty Insubstantial on Larry King

I'm not really sure why Nancy Reagan is on my TV screen right now.  I mean, I know that I turned on CNN, and that's why I'm watching Larry King right now but I don't understand why she's on because she doesn't really have anything to say.

When Larry King asks her things, he suggests one possible answer and Reagan always agrees with the suggested answer, and says very little more.  Disturbingly, it appears the only thing she is capable of doing is repeating the "official line", the Reagan administration line, and is perhaps incabapble of speaking contemporaneously.
