Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes … known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.… No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.
The debate tonight is unfolding, please keep calling, go to CSPAN. Rules voted to allow McGovern/Obey, Lee Amendment and the amendment to strike all military funding from Afghanistan. After the current 15 min vote, there will be two 5 min votes and then 60 min debate on the rule will ensue and then a vote on the rule. After that there will be 90 mins of debate including 30 for Lee and 30 for McGovern. Four votes should occur at the end.
1. McGovern/Obey 2. Lee Amend which basically limits the way monies can be spent for only force protection to fully fund the withdrawal of troops 3. Adding additional domestic monies 4. Motion to strike all military funds.
Call your member to vote Y,Y,N,Y.
Rep. Honda issues challenge to conservatives to vote against war funds (Huffington Post):
It is disingenuous to say this is an "emergency" supplemental. The only "emergency" is this: In funding the longest war in history, we are putting America further into debt with China, expanding the deficit, increasing wasteful government spending, undermining our budgetary process, risking Social Security and solidifying debt that military leaders call our number one national security threat. - Rep. Mike Honda (D-NY)

Weeks ago House Representatives refused to award the auto industry a blanket bailout or even a bridge loan. Policymakers insisted they must see a reasonable plan to revamp a business near bankruptcy. The legislators set a deadline for delivery of the proposal, December 2, 2008. This same date was reserved for another auto review; in Florida a delayed vote on emission regulations would finally be realized. The two tales may seem separate; certainly, the cities where Congresspersons will meet are far apart. Nonetheless, the sagas are inexorably connected.
