Guam Presdiential Election Results

Even though our vote here for president doesn't count, since Guam is not a state, there was a "straw poll" on our ballot yesterday (Guam is on the other side of the international date line from the US).  The results: Obama:  20,120; McCain:  11,940.  This may be significant because Bush won the straw poll in 2000 and 2004.

Guam Democratic Party Chair Pilar Lujan said today:

"After taking a close look at the candidates in this race, I was more impressed by Senator Clinton's ability to meet the challenges of the presidency: end the war, re-invigorate the economy, and provide universal health care...When she becomes the first woman president, she will think of the people of Guam and their aspirations."

Nice to see that HRC can still marshall support from the Democratic party Superdelegates given that Obama is only 61 delegates from the nomination. I like the positive language in her quote ("when she becomes the first woman president"!)

It is also good for HRC that, despite Obama's Oregon win and the fact that the media and pundits have tagged him as the presumptive nominee the SDs have been relatively frozen the last two days.

Obama was leading with 5 percent, but waiting for the 2nd largest village of Dededo to report.

They did.  They too overwhelmingly went to Hillary.

Guam Primary: Obama 50.1, Clinton 49.9 !!!

The final results are in.

Obama 50.1

Clinton 49.9

What a squeaker, but this is still encouraging since Obama was supposed to win by 11%

Obama actually won by seven votes. This should be a sobering lesson to all of us regarding the importance of our votes. This is as close to a tie as one can get. Indiana and Noth Carolina Clinton supporters get on the telephine and GOTV for her. This is indeed momentum.
