The Courier Post received more than 60 letters opposing predatory lending practices and encouraging Rep. Frank LoBiondo to support legislation regulating it. Here is his response:
As residents of New Jersey's 2nd Congressional District have long known, I welcome the comments and concerns of my constituents on any issue at any time.I have received the petitions forwarded by the Courier-Post to me from my constituents. I firmly believe an individual's finances and management of one's credit is a personal responsibility that each of us must accept when we willingly enter into a contractual agreement with card providers.
At this time, I am reviewing all legislation before the House of Representatives regarding current law governing credit cards and the companies that solicit them, and I will soon respond directly to those constituents who contacted me on this issue.
The writer is a Republican U.S. representative from Vineland. His district includes southern Gloucester County; small portions of Camden and Burlington counties; and all of Salem, Cumberland, Cape May and Atlantic counties.
The Courier-Post called this response "scant" and "offensive"
