LoBiondo "Offensive" on Predatory Lending

The Courier Post received more than 60 letters opposing predatory lending practices and encouraging Rep. Frank LoBiondo to support legislation regulating it.  Here is his response:


As residents of New Jersey's 2nd Congressional District have long known, I welcome the comments and concerns of my constituents on any issue at any time.

I have received the petitions forwarded by the Courier-Post to me from my constituents. I firmly believe an individual's finances and management of one's credit is a personal responsibility that each of us must accept when we willingly enter into a contractual agreement with card providers.

At this time, I am reviewing all legislation before the House of Representatives regarding current law governing credit cards and the companies that solicit them, and I will soon respond directly to those constituents who contacted me on this issue.

The writer is a Republican U.S. representative from Vineland. His district includes southern Gloucester County; small portions of Camden and Burlington counties; and all of Salem, Cumberland, Cape May and Atlantic counties.

The Courier-Post called this response "scant" and "offensive"

Holding Congressman Frank LoBiondo accountable

Yesterday the GOP House of Representatives crafted a razor-thin victory that will shape all of our lives for decades. I wasn't alone in decrying the lack of attention this measure got. Ihlin at dailyKos had a diary up lamenting how so little attention was paid to this vote, a vote which basically served to ram Republican budget priorities down the throats of every American for years to come. This was a bill for the folks who've been seeking to brand "entitlements" as a code word for government hand outs that people don't deserve...
