Washington DC "Shadow Senators", Sen. Paul Strauss & Sen. Michael Brown, have endorsed Barack Obama. The endorsement was noted on page 9 of the print version of today's Washington Post, District local news section (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con
tent/article/2008/02/27/AR2008022701430_
2.html). The endorsement is noted at the very end of the story. The shadow Senators are unpaid & elected by Washington "Taxation Without Representation" DC voters to lobby for voting rights & DC statehood. "Shadow Senators" can't vote in the US Senate nor are they recognized by that body.

Thanks again to everyone who helped with and attended the YKos grassroots fundraiser at Local 16 in DC Sunday evening. with online & the door it raised between $2,500 & 3,000. A good time was had by all. It was an ecclectic group with many, many very popular bloggers, local activists, TBA attendees from all over the country and a fine group of speakers. I won't begin to list all of the great bloggers because I know I'll leave too many people out, suffice it to say that if an asteroid had hit the place the bloggosphere would have been about half wiped out.

This
is the fifth in a series of MyDD interviews called Hearing
Progressive Voices, conducted via instant messenger
and focused on people doing compelling work in progressive politics.
(How about signing
up to get an email when future Hearing Progressive Voices interviews
go live?) Ilir
Zherka is Executive Director of DC
Vote, the force behind the fight for voting rights in the nation's
capital. A predominantly black 68 square-mile city whose half million
residents voted for John Kerry at a rate of 90%, the District of
Columbia has no U.S. Senators. Its sole congressional Representative
cannot vote on the House floor. Ilir and I talked about the 'Taxation
without Representation' battle cry, the challenge of having low-knowledge supporters and dedicated opponents, agitating for domestic
change in the global space, and what we all can do about the failure
of democracy in Washington DC.
