So America Isn't So Homophobic?

(Proudly cross-posted at C4O Democrats)

I guess not. Believe it or not, most Americans don't hate queer people.

The LGBT Case for Barack Obama

There has never been a presidential nominee from either political party that is as supportive of LGBT civil rights as Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee. He has long fought for civil and equal rights for minorities including the LGBT community. And, in the presidential campaign, Sen. Obama has included LGBT Americans numerous times in his speeches.

Sen. Obama's strong support for LGBT civil rights did not begin with his decision to run for the presidency. As an Illinois State Senator, Senator Obama's advocacy on behalf of minorities included championing the equal rights of LGBT people when he became the chief co-sponsor of the Illinois Employment Non-Discrimination Bill which eventually became Illinois law.

My Special Reality

(Originally posted on The Bilerico Project by Ethan St. Pierre)

"Why don't you just demand your rights as an American instead of asking for Special Rights?"

Transgender Americans are not asking for special rights but for the same rights that other people have. The fact that transgender Americans are NOT treated equally in employment, housing, credit..etc. begs for legislation to stop discriminatory acts towards transgender people. Transgender Americans are not asking for rights that others don't have. Transgender Americans are not asking to be treated better than everyone else or to have something that other Americans don't have.

When I began transitioning on the job and I started exhibiting male characteristics, I was fired from my job and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it. I was told by every lawyer that I did not have a case because there was no law to protect transgender people from being fired in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Hillary Declares: "I Am Proud To Stand By Your Side"

Hillary Clinton speaks at HRC and declares herself a strong ally of the LGBT Community! How refreshing to hear a candidate speak for our rights instead of purely against them, or in vague terms that barelyreference them, or work to completely avoid the issue. She has declared herself proudly against the Federal Marriage Amendment. And I quote:

"We will not stand idly by when anyone tries to write discrimination into our Constitution"

"We want to make sure that all Americans in committed relationships have equal benefits, from health insurance & life insurance, to social security & property rights, and more. It is wrong that so many people are unable to care for those they love; to leave them their homes & belongings, to ensure they can see a doctor, to visit them in the hospital when they are sick. These are fundamental rights, and we will continue to push until they are equally available."
