My Old Professor, Don Fowler

Yep.  That was interesting.

My old political science professor, Don Fowler, voted for the compromise today that helped settle this mess.  I e-mailed him about all this last month, not having spoken to him in about six years.  I sent a rather lengthy e-mail offering my thoughts, as a former student of his.  About ten days went by, and he responded.

I won't quote him, as it was a private letter.  I will simply state that he is a very strong supporter of Senator Clinton and seems genuinely baffled that Senator Obama has run a better campaign...

Hillary picks up another "superdelegate" vote...

...The Boston Globe is reporting that former Chair of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler has endorsed Hillary Clinton for President.

Former Democratic National Committee national chairman Don Fowler endorsed White House hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday, lauding her experience while saying South Carolina has become a close race for the New York senator.

"Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of their party. Hillary Clinton is the best candidate for the Democratic Party," Fowler said in a telephone call with reporters.

Hillary also picked up the endorsement of the Iowa Secretary of State:
Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Mauro made his announcement Wednesday at an event in Des Moines, according to a Clinton campaign statement. He says the New York senator stands out among the other candidates and doesn't have a "learning curve."

These are super endorsements for a super candidate, but we still need to keep working hard.  In about an hour, I'll be on the phones talking to voters about why Hillary has the strength and experience to creat change in America.  Hopefully many of the other MyDD Hillary supporters will be doing the same.

Winning endorsements is good, but winning elections is even better.

Fmr DNC Chair Don Fowler on Dean's Ouster: "Nonsense"

On Tuesday, former DNC Chairman Don Fowler (1995-96) sent an email to many national Democratic Party leaders and several DNC members in response to calls for Howard Dean to be replaced. Here's what it said:

From: Don Fowler
To: [undisclosed]
Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2006 3:39 PM
Subject: Dean should stay as Chair

Some ill-advised voices have suggested that, because of his 50-state strategy, Governor Dean should be replaced as Chair of the DNC.

This is nonsense.  The 50-state strategy is exactly what the Democratic Party needed and continues to need.  Why do the Washington people think that they have a special prerogative to dictate what the Democratic Party needs?

I hope that all DNC members will join me in rejecting this foolishness--from whatever source it came.

Democrats won a great victory on November 7--control of the United States House of Representatives, control of the United States Senate, majority of Governors, and majority of state legislative bodies.  Why should anyone want to mess with the team that won these remarkable results?

Governor Dean deserves to continue as DNC Chair.

Fmr DNC Chair Fowler to Dean: Keep it Up!

This letter went last week from former DNC Chair Don Fowler (1995-96) to Democratic Party leaders around the country and was picked up today by a Clinton Alumni List Serve.

Recent complaints by some Washington pundits with limited agendas that the Democratic National Committee should withdraw support from state Democratic parties are short-sighted and misplaced.

One of the long-time shortcomings of the Democratic National Committee has been its control by Washington people whose visions dim south of the Potomac, west of Chevy Chase, and north of RFK stadium. This lack of understanding of anything much about American politics other than the fees of Washington campaign consultants is what has given our party defeats in 2000, 2002, and 2004. We Democrats shouldn't be led down that same bumpy road in 2006 and 2008.
