Just throwing out a bone. What on earth do people think is actually going on in Afghanistan? For that matter, what do you think is going to happen in Iran?

I was watching Colbert (last week?), and he had Pat Buchanan on. I thought that his new book might actually have some relevance to what is currently happening in the Middle East. Now we must never forget that while Pat is really politically smart and possibly even kinda charming, he is an isolationist and maybe even a Nazi. And I cannot agree with him that WW II was an unnecessary war. Over six million Jews, gypsy's, gay men , lesbians, and other people murdered crushes any other argument. However, he did make some excellent points about the absolute train wreck we have created in the Middle East and Western Asia. I probably will have to read his book to see what he is talking about (sigh).

One of the more concerning things I have seen in Afghanistan is the recent incursion into Pakistan. I am also very concerned that stupid is trying to take us into war with Iran. Didn't they try to create some sort of Gulf of Tonkin type incident in the Persian Gulf this past spring when they accused Iranian (gunboats?) of attacking US naval ships?

At the same time I think the actual strike is pointless, and invited some derision. That said, I was simultaneously surprised and fascinated to see Alegre's name in big orange letters on The Colbert Report last night.
