"At a time of great crisis with mortgage foreclosures and autos, he says we only have one president at a time," Frank said. "I'm afraid that overstates the number of presidents we have. He's got to remedy that situation."

I've gotten much grief for diary-ing about Sen. Dodd and Countrywide.
But, I have a hard time making excuses for Democrats when they do things I attack Republicans for doing. Especially this year, when the stakes are high and we're presenting ourselves as the agents of change. (See Sulla, Pompeia aka Caesar's wife)
So, follow the link to OpenSecrets (hardly a Republican front organization):

Have been called / cursed lots of names for having the temerity to expect better from my party than I do from the Republicans, I'll shut up (for now) and let that radical right wing neo con DLC McCainiac front organization, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, have the last word for today:
``It seems like there was a violation of the Senate gift rule,'' said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. ``It doesn't sound as if Senators Dodd and Conrad knew about it, though, which makes it trickier,''

Yesterday, I diary-ed about Senators Dodd's and Conrad's "VIP" mortgages from Countrywide. Basically, Sen. Chris Dodd, chair of the Banking Committee, and Sen. Kent Conrad, chair of the Budget Committee and a member of the Finance Committee, allegedly refinanced properties through corrupt, insolvent, predatory Countrywide's "V.I.P." program, receiving reduced fees, points and closing costs.

Those who put partisanship above patriotism, and party loyalty above ethical standards, dismissed the report, and attacked the messenger, because the senators "only" received $2700 and $10,000, respectively. See yesterday's comments.
But see today's new disclosures.

With the nomination of Michael Mukasey for attorney general, to replace the Alberto Gonzales, being in the News lately, the issue of Constitutional Rights has once again moved to the front burner of American Politics. Senator Christopher Dodd, much to his credit has been an out-spoken defender of Constitutional Rights:
much of the focus has been on Mukasey's non-answer to if he considers waterboarding torture and thus unconstitutional
...
"No, I was the first senator among the presidential candidates to say no,"said Dodd in response to a question if he would support Mukasey's nomination.
Way to go Senator Dodd! We need more Senators fighting to protect and the Constitution, like you have! You have my respect Sir.
Since my Candidate of choice is John Edwards however, this made me wonder, "What does Edwards think about Protecting the Constitution?"
To see what I found out, read on please ...
(BTW, I think an Edwards/Dodd Ticket would be an excellent combination to restore a broken America, too)
