Bilbray, Of The Virginia Bilbrays

Brian Bilbray has never made a secret of his contempt for California's 50th district. During a landfill controversy in the early nineties, a Bilbray aide said, "The trash can pile up on the streets of North County, as far as Brian is concerned." In fact, Bilbray refuses to even live in the district he says he's representing.

Bilbray Lets The Troops Down

"With the nation at war against global terrorism, I cannot think of a more important time to serve on committees like Armed Services and Veterans' Affairs. My top priorities will continue to be supporting our troops and winning the war on terror," said Brian Bilbray. Unfortunately, even in the short time he's been back in Congress, lobbyist Bilbray's deeds don't match his words.

CA-50 -- First Netroots Strategy Failure

© by Stephen Neitzke, 2006

CA-50 back to the Repubs.

Playing out the Dem/netroots politics-as-usual strategy, with nothing radical said or done to impinge the good names of the treasonous Republican Party or treasonous Vichy Democrats, is now an established LOSER.

Waving sniff-sniff hankies at Repub "ethics lapses" does not fire up the millions of withdrawn, unregistered voters.  Milquetoast "get the vote out" registration drives only drive the withdrawn further underground.

CA-50: Lessons Learned

[editor's note, by dfields] Changed title to something more productive

There are a couple of themes I'm picking up on from the comments:

Media's fault
Low Dem Turnout
Absentee Ballots

Media's fault - I think this really means an issue poorly managed by the campaign (It wasn't the media's fault for piling on the Swift Boat lies, it was Kerry's for not responding quickly and aggressively)

Low Dem Turnout - Is this better or worse than losing on the issues? I know I lost my own race last year because the Dem's didn't vote (I had plenty of Republicans vote for me). I can say that I didn't lock in my Dems first before I went to the Republicans (lot's of RINO's in my area). Why are congressional campaigns making the same mistakes I am?

Absentee Ballots - I see a lot of people saying "The Repubs always get more absentee ballots than the Dems" This happens in my area as well. Ummm...why the hell is this? Is this some secret we Dems don't know about? Why would they always have more (way more) absentee ballots than us? You look at what Busby lost by, it looks like she lost because the Repubs got more absentee ballots in than she did. If someone was to argue that this wasn't the case, well then the Repubs got more voters to the polls on Election Day than the Dems did.
