Ralph Nader will be on Alaska's November general election ballot for U.S. president. The Alaska Division of Elections has certified more than 4900 signatures of Alaska voters. Nader needed 3145 signatures. He is now on the ballot in 45 states. The 2008 election will be the fourth time Nader has run for president as a third-party candidate.
Also, seems the repugs are trying to keep barr off the ballot in Pennsylvania.

As residents of New Orleans were fleeing Hurricane Gustav, top Republican Party officials donned pink boas and swigged vodka shots at a wild whirl of corporate and lobbyist-paid parties this weekend in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Sunday night lobbyists with ties to criminally indicted lawmaker Tom DeLay, put on a raucous six-hour party at a downtown bar featuring music by the band "Hookers and Blow." There was no evidence of any actual prostitutes or cocaine.
Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA), a GOP House deputy whip, was seen meeting with a group of lobbyists, who bemoaned McCain's call to tone down the parties which had already been paid for.
Shuster said he was praying for the people of the Gulf coast and said, despite Sen. McCain's call to "tone things down," there was no need to curtail corporate parties until after the Hurricane hit land. - ABC News

Bill Shuster has spent the last couple of days being driven around the PA-9th District talking up his "Energy Independence act". Flashy title aside, HR 6421 is quite probably deader than fried chicken. The Bill was introduced to the floor of Congress on June 29th without a single co-sponsor. That means that no one in Congress, not even any republicans, would attach their name to it. The last energy-related bill that got out of Committee had some 198 co-sponsors.
As is standard practice, HR 6421 was referred to six different Congressional Committees; Natural resources, Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, Science and Technology, Transportation and Infrastructure and House rules. Any one of these committees can kill this bill for any reason, but that's not why this bill is deader than Julius Caesar.
This Bill is dead on arrival for a number of reasons.

So the "convention wisdom" is that Barr hurts McCain more than Obama. I have always questioned this, the same way I have questioned and debunked the "conventional wisdom" myth that Perot hurt Bush more than Clinton, as the exit poll results show, as Perot was pro-choice pro-gay and anti-NAFTA. If we look at the Libertarian party platform, sure, they are for lower taxes and tariffs , but they are also for legalized abortion, against the War in Iraq, against infringements on civil liberties, gay rights, and for legalized drugs. Now, some say he'll draw conservative votes. But if we look at them on those issues, Bob Barr is no conservative candidate. That is not to say they will get SOME conservative votes, but they are more likely to get votes that are NOT conservative. Bob Barr has now flip flopped and is AGAINST the war on drugs. being that the LP and Barr are emphasizing against the war in Iraq and for civil liberties, he may very well draw more votes from Obama. Those are their biggest issues, and are liberal ones. The rest of their platform is kind of liberal, socially. We cannot afford this. if this is a close election, this could be the difference. And if we win with a plurality, and Barr gets some, it will allow conservatives to diminish our mandate as they did to Clinton, and undermine his agenda. We cannot allow this. This is why I highly suggest NOT to help Bob Barr. He only helps McCain stay close. Conservatives who think McCain is a liberal are NOT going to flock to a candidate whose party platform is for legal abortion, gay rights, and for legalized drugs, and Barr is likely to go with the platform on most things. The LP platform will attract many young votes, some of whom may not call themselves liberal, but are more likely to vote for a guy like Obama than McCain.
