Let 'em rot!

We've had a mini-episode of PUMA content popping up recently- unfortunately, the community-imposed moratorium on PUMA related diaries ain't gonna hold up. Ahh, well, such is life, eh?

But if you weren't clued in on the content of my diary by the title, lemme just re-emphasize it- let 'em rot! Just ignore 'em!

To illustrate my point, here's a photo depiction of yer average PUMA-

And here's an excellent depiction of their attitude-

So we all know that giving them attention is precisely what they're craving. This, however, flies in the face of the reality that they don't matter. Period. Zippo. That's the end of the line.

I know, I know- it's particularly galling. Some of the PUMA heavyweights exude ignorance of reality that is sickeningly fascinating. It made you wonder whether their delusions were driven by politics or psychosis, whether you should be angry at them or pity them.

We've seen the kind of people we'd have been dealing with if the roles had been reversed- that's probably the worst part for me, personally. I'd have been sorely disappointed, but I would have gladly supported Senator Clinton if the tables had been turned- certainly considering Senator McCain's behavior as of late.

Look at some of the ex-Clinton diehards who have stuck around. Bobswern and I, for example, had a particularly contentious relationship throughout the primary season, but now I make a point to hotlink his new diaries because they're consistently damn good. And sricki? She was so quiet in the primary season, and now, I can't read enough by her.

At the worst, I'd have worked like hell for Tom Periello and Mark Warner, since my state wouldn't have been staffed with any Clinton '08 offices. But we've seen the people who assured us they would work with the nominee, that they expected us to join in with party unity if/when Senator Clinton became the nominee- and they are duplicitous and pathological liars. Hell, they've shown they don't even actually care about Senator Clinton!

No matter to that, however, the answer to their behavior is... can anyone guess?

IGNORE THEM! I ventured into the maw that is Alegre's Soapblox; I've seen Big Pink. Here's the level of their discourse-

Really, it's the blogging equivalent of standing on top of a building screaming "I'M GOING TO JUMP! I'LL DO IT!" It's a ploy for attention. I would be more concerned if I hadn't heard anything from them.

But a quick glimpse of their quasi-racist, tremblingly irate screeds reveals this:

And the site they've chosen for their meeting place in Denver says it all:

So, please folks, just remember- grant these people all the attention and seriousness that their position and demeanor merits.

I lurk lots these days. Moving here and now taking care of the baby mostly full-time has taken it's toll... I made the bad decision of letting my ex stay with us in her transition period to moving to town, here, and that was a serious mistake. She seems to be getting better with the baby, but if I had any doubt whether we had a future or not...

Cats like antifreeze, I've heard. But then, I don't much care for cats. They'd certainly be sedate, though, right?

What a wicked thing to say! (2.00 / 4)

Actually, I hated cats my entire life, until my roommate decided we needed several. Then she failed to take care of them properly, and they got dropped on me. Much to my delight, I discovered that three of them act very much like little dogs, and I learned to love the other a great deal as well.

I'm terribly sorry about your ex. I'm glad she's doing better with the baby, but I'm sorry that your relationship (or perhaps lack thereof) isn't working out. Best of luck to all three of you. We'll all be pulling for you here.

Hey don't get me wrong if they are coming to stay its all good.

Loved Reagan in the 80s and have moved on in life and now wouldn't vote for him if he was sent down from Heaven?  Welcome.

Voting for Obama because Reagan isn't available?  Not Welcome by me.

Re: Which is worse: (2.00 / 4)

That means quite a bit to me, sricki, thank you! I avowed myself an Independent in 2004, but I kept wishing that Bush and the Republicans would get their act together...

... but when the Democrats won control of Congress in 2006, I went "YES!" I was actually a little surprised, because the transition had happened and I hadn't even noticed, outwardly.

Re: Ludacris yeah! (2.00 / 3)

Obama camp says Ludacris should be 'ashamed'

"As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn't want his daughters or any children exposed to," Burton said. "This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics."

Of course, I'm sure the fine folks over at NoQuarter already have conclusive evidence that Barack HUSSEIN Obama wrote the lyrics himself and then gave them to Ludacris in order to publicly rebuke him and then hypnotize women into voting for him, all of which is, of course, a huge slap in the face to Hillary Clinton.

I did see that.  You were funny as hell though. That was a primary type flame war. I was munching on my popcorn bigtime!

It's fun to mix it up once in awhile but it seems as if every diary is a flamewar.

Re: Let 'em rot! (2.00 / 2)

Ya, I tried to do the 'watch and munch popcorn' thing...but, I kept finding myself goin' "Oh No He/She Di'int!"...and then diving in with a (usually) overlong rant.

While it was, admittedly, somewhat cathartic at points....the over all effect is draining.

All that typing and attempting to impart logic to no avail. It is like when my 3 yr old niece is SCREAMING that the only reason we won't let her play outside is that her shoes aren't on....when, really, the problem is that nothing else is either.

She is just completely incapable of seeing beyond what SHE thinks we are 'upset' about...and trying to explain it to her only results in further meltdown.

The issue today was not 'being able to have civil discourse' or 'feeling safe sharing one's opinion'...it was 'not supporting and promoting blatant lies about a fellow Democrat'.

Yikes!...there I go again! And I only have myself to blame...bah.

Ah well, all in all...there WERE some pretty funny moments. The laughter almost makes it worth it.  ;)

I sincerely hope that wasn't a "two men, fresh pasta, one cart" type of remark.  I don't think any of the PUMAs (SOWs) have shown up at any meeting with a U-Haul yet.

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?

No wonder I can't 'diary' often.

Why are there still diaries about PUMA's? The primary ended like how many months ago? Its as if all the diaries from the PUMA's have been replaced by diaries talking about them. Why give them free advertisement?

Pumas (2.00 / 3)

Absolutely fine to object to Puma Posts. Understand the complete frustration.  Ignore them.  Repudiate them. Curse them all you want.

I do feel you could have better made the point much better without a scantily clad woman doing a handstand while using the term whore. On another topic maybe, but on this particular topic, it creates uncomfortable sexist undercurrents.  I speak mind you as both a woman and an Obama supporter.

To me this just feeds the ugly fire.

by KateG on Thu Jul 31, 2008 at 10:40:28 AM EST

Damn! I missed this party... (none / 0)

...too busy workin' my ass off in the real world over the past 24 hours...

Oh, well...

Rage, first of all...let me commend you on your awesome choices as far as your hotlist is concerned. Clearly, your choices for placement on that are sublime! LOL!

Second, I totally agree with the premise of this diary...

But if you weren't clued in on the content of my diary by the title, lemme just re-emphasize it- let 'em rot! Just ignore 'em!

Professionally speaking, a very common mistake in communications (especially political communications) is that many don't understand the concept that some squeaky wheels stop squeaking if you just let 'em run their course. As far as this particular instance is concerned, too much attention is paid to this very small group (that are in turn) giving a bad name to a much larger group of undecideds that were former Hillary supporters that have yet to come to their senses.

Hundreds of thousands of them--often mistaken for PUMAs--will, inevitably, come to their senses and vote for Obama. Many/most of them are already voting for downticket Dems. Their votes for the top of the ticket will follow.

So, we have this small group of supporters (really no more than a few dozen, IMHO) online drawing the attention and ire of the Dem masses, effectively feeding the flames of this small group's desire for undue influence.

The answer is simple: stop feeding the fire!

Left to their own devices, they will marginalize themselves.

In other words, I totally concur with the quite succinct premise of your diary, summed-up in the headline: Let 'em rot!

--Bob

P.S.: Nice to see you back here, and on the Rec list, to boot!

Yes,, but (2.00 / 1)

this diary is absolutely the opposite of ignoring them..

I agree, actually.... (2.00 / 1)

...and except for this diary, give or take (there may have been one other, I don't recall), I've been making a rather deliberate attempt to support ALL efforts relating to posting and commenting on PUMA's. The only exceptions--other than this--have been in a few vehement responses I've posted in comments in diaries not focused upon this issue, where other commenters have somehow attempted to derail a topic (whatever the other topic was), and shift focus to the PUMA issue.

That being said, this diarist is a blogging friend; he mentions my name in the diary; and he's been noticeably absent from these posts for quite awhile, for the most part.

I'm assuming the diarist will heed his own advice, going forward, and shift his own posting focus to other matters, as well.

But, yes, while I was--essentially--disobeying my own sentiments, by posting here (just upthread), I agree with you.

The quicker we put this entire matter behind us, the quicker it'll go away.

Clarifying previous comment... (none / 0)

I've been making a rather deliberate attempt to support ALL efforts relating to posting and commenting on PUMA's.

Should have had an additional phrase at the end of this sentence...so, for clarity, here it is:

I've been making a rather deliberate attempt to support ALL efforts relating to posting and commenting on PUMA's...as far as folks on this blog are concerned calling for a policy of NOT posting any more diaries relating to this totally overdone PUMA issue.
