SUSA: Udall headed for landslide in NM

http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollRepo rt.aspx?g=8873e7c5-a311-44e2-b01b-9df0a5 3afa30

This November voters in New Mexico will be electing a new Senator to replace the retiring republican, Pete Domenici.

In a hypothetical General Election for U.S. Senator from New Mexico today, 25 weeks to the vote, Democrat Tom Udall defeats either Republican Pearce or Republican Wilson by a nearly identical margin. Today, against Pearce, Udall wins 60% to 36%. Against Wilson, Udall wins 61% to 35%. Udall leads among both men and women, young and old, white and Hispanic, regardless of opponent. 1 in 4 Republicans cross over and vote Democrat; 1 in 10 Democrats cross over to vote Republican.

Well, I remain hopeful and I think he will win well, but, we haven't had our primary yet and the Repubs have been going at it trying to determine who will challenge him, so the number will be changing after next month.

Yes, I definitely agree, and I'm sure it will tighten, but the republicans will have a big hill to climb.

Udall is running unchallenged (none / 0)

(by any serious contender) for his nomination, I've heard the republican battle is getting ugly (I read something on SwingState).

re (2.00 / 1)

Looks like this may move ahead of VA as the sure thing lol Well two or three sure things would be nice. I don't think New Hampshire will be that close either

Re: SUSA: Udall headed for landslide in NM (2.00 / 2)

NH, VA, CO, and NM are going to go dem this year and with luck we can hold onto LA.  The one i would really love to see is Franken to beat Norm Coleman.  What a dick.  And more importantly if we pick up 5 or so seats we can give Leiberman the boot.  If he speaks at the GOP convention he is out and he can say good by to his Home land security chair.

I would love to see Coleman get beat too. we still have a few scores to settle there.

Some other states that are surprisingly competitive are North Carolina, Texas, and Alaska.

I believe that so far, the polls out of Lousiana show Landrieu with a nice lead.

As a person from MN (2.00 / 1)

I am working on convincing my relatives to open their wallets for Al.  I got my brother to give to Hillary after PA (I said he should get involved if he wants her to be president).  I've been harping him about Franken...

Wow (2.00 / 1)

that is amazing, I knew that Rep. T. Udall was fairly safe but in the 60's this is amazing news I think everyone on the site can dig (well except the freeper trolls)

Wonderful (none / 0)

A good harbinger of the Dem prospects in New Mexico this fall, regardless of the nominee's identity.  Frankly, I think either Clinton or Obama could carry New Mexico handily.

And in 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024... the state stops looking like purple Missouri and starts looking more like blue Rhode Island.

2004 swing state margins: PA-2%, OH-2%, IA-1%, WI-0.5%, MI-3%, FL-5%, NM-1%; Alienating 50% of the party is a luxury we can't afford.

Aye, being a New Mexican, this is good (but mostly expected) news.

I haven't really been following the Republican side, but any word on who's on track for the nomination? Last I heard, Pearce was ahead, which kind of surprised me. I thought Wilson would've had it, being sort of the heir apparent for Domenici.

Re: SUSA: Udall headed for landslide in NM (none / 0)

The SUSA Poll link above had it 49-46 for Pearce.

Terrific news! (none / 0)

Thanks for the update...I knew it would go well for him, but the blowout looks like NM is clearly ready to move forward.

Re: SUSA: Udall headed for landslide in NM (none / 0)

McCain is not going to get New Mexico's electoral votes.  No way in hell, not with Udall and Richardson getting out the vote for us.  Fantastic news.
