My mother is one of those unfortunates who, on occasion, celebrates both Mother's Day and her birthday on the same day.
Today was one such occasion. I won't say the age - that's not polite, by most standards - but I do want to say Happy Mother's Day to her and to all of our mothers in this community.
Whether it be an Obama-son or daughter who has a Clinton-mom or vice versa or a family that's solidly one way or the other, I think days like these transcend politics.
On days of celebration and sometimes even during dinner time, it's polite to put away the bickering over elections and politics. My mother is a Clinton supporter; I myself am an Obama supporter.
Tonight, I took my mother to a swanky restaurant and we didn't discuss anything pertaining to the calamities that face us; or the primaries; or the election to come. We discussed simpler things - gardening, my parents new motorhome and recent events in the family.
Sometimes, it's nice to stop and smell the roses.
But it's important that we remember every day is Mother's Day; as is every day is Father's Day. It's important to remember, where we came from, even if where we're going is far away from that.
So on this 100th Anniversary of this event; I wish to all the mothers of our community: Happy Mother's Day.
Us spoiled children often forget just what kind of hell we put you through :).
