This is disgraceful in Mississippi not one potential candidate AND we have a primary in the second.

NOW WE KNOW THAT THESE AREN'T EXACTLY SWING DISTRICTS BUT WE MUST CONTEST EVERY ONE.

Is there someone that YOU know that could file.

Hints, tips and gossip away.

We really need to be doing more of this sort of thing. No slot uncontested!!!

Re: (none / 0)

My guess is someone will file at the last minute for each seat. Witness the way we ended up with a full slate in Ohio even though up through filing day it looked like Hobson and Regula would go unopposed.

Yeah, I missed that somehow.  His site look interesting.  I hope the state and feds give him enough money to slam Foxx - she's a horrible winger.

Re: NC 5 (none / 0)

There is no one site or group of sites.

You would be surprised that a lot of leads bob up in tangentially related diaries here and on kos

Barry Welsh IN 6th District Democratic Congressional Candidate

by Congressional Candidate Barry Welsh on Mon Feb 20, 2006 at 11:17:07 PM EST

I have to convince my father-in-law (3.00 / 0)

My father-in-law lives in the 5th District and is a life long Democrat.  I'll have to call him and tell him to run or get someone he knows to do it.

Nebraska Democrats on the move (none / 0)

I'm very proud of my home state's Democratic party, who isn't just fielding a full slate: they're fielding a full slate of credible, energetic and serious competitiors in some of the reddest districts in the nation.  The headliner is probably Maxine Moul in CD 1, a former Lieutenant governor who has spent years since serving her state in various capacities (unfortunately she still has no website up) facing a rather irrelevant freshmen who drastically underperformed Bush in his district in 2004.  The Second District features Jim Esch, a member of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce who's website (www.jimesch.org) is a perfect demonstration of what is really turning out to be a very innovative and very dedicated campaign against ditto-head Lee Terry.  And the open seat in the third district is being challenged by Scott Kleeb, a ranch hand with a Master's in International Relations from Yale (and expecting a doctorate soon, having finished his dissertation on the history of cattle ranching).  Very in touch with the 3rd District, very bright and very much dedicated to his campaign.  You can check him out at www.scottkleeb.com/21.

The Nebraska Democrats really deserve major kudos for what is turning out to be a wonderful comeback after the embarrasment of our statewide efforts in 2002.

NC06 (none / 0)

What's with NW Guilford county being completely dismembered from the rest of the district?  Nice gerrymander there....

Re: NC06 (none / 0)

You should see Mel Watt's district, let  me find it.  Now, knowing Mel Watt heads the Congressional Black Caucus - what do you think the population of that snake have in common?

Whoah, anaconda! (none / 0)

That is one seriously bleeped-up district. That's no gerrymander, that's a full-on New Year's dragon.  It looks like a topo of a riverbottom-- is it?

So does that kind of a gerrymander help black people or hurt them?

Re: Whoah, anaconda! (none / 0)

It's definitely a river area.

The 12th District was drawn, and then redrawn, to favor a black Democrat, Rep. Mel Watt. Five years ago, the court struck it down as a classic example of a racial gerrymander.

A majority of the district's voters were black, but this was accomplished by linking mostly black neighborhoods in Durham, Greensboro and Charlotte. As a result, Watt's district stretched 160 miles down the center of the state but sometimes was only as wide as Interstate 85. The state Legislature redrew it in 1997 to make it more compact. Currently, 46% of its voters--less than a majority--are black. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who voted earlier to strike down the district, switched sides Wednesday and joined the liberal coalition that upheld it. "This is very good news for state legislatures as they begin the complex process of redistricting," said former U.S. Solicitor General Walter Dellinger, who defended his home state of North Carolina in the case.

Re: 7 states? (none / 0)

Pardon me if I missed a state. I've been trying to keep track of House races on my own and could only come up with six that have had their filing deadlines pass:

Illinois
Texas
West Virginia
Kentucky
Ohio
Indiana

What is the seventh state?  Again I apologize if someone listed it before, but I could not find it.

by Dave in MD on Tue Feb 21, 2006 at 11:10:49 AM EST

Re: 7 states? (none / 0)

Never mind.

I just stumbled across it - New Mexico is the state I missed.

Re: NC 06 Not Happening (none / 0)

Sorry, I am on the ground in NC 06.  Although I am in NC 12, my county is split in the two disctricts.  I can tell you for sure, Coble is very popular, and nobody of any substance is will to take him on.  I would be very suprised if he had a challenger.

Sorry.

Ken Sunshine.
