Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this

Bumped--Chris

You couldn't make this up.   Randy Kuhl, who Jerome diaried about here back in 2004 for being drunk and pulling a shot gun on his wife at a party, that Randy Kuhl (Republican-NY), gives his closing arguments to a debate with fighting dem Eric Massa at a Rotary Club.   He rambles for quite a bit.   But then he wants to talk about how the Republican government does so much for the people.  His example?  Katrina.  From the Times Union blog:

"You can see that when, in fact, this government needs to react, like it did with Katrina with immediate appropriations to help out people who were dying.

The rotary club laughs at him.   Watch the video here.

I believe the last poll i saw was pre-Foley and it had Massa tied with Kuhl.

Update (Chris): Here is the You Tube video:

Eric Massa is on the netroots page.

You have got to be kidding.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (none / 0)

sadly not kidding about the shotgun and the wife (who since had the good sense to divorce him) or the example of Katrina.

Give Eric Massa some money if you can.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (3.00 / 2)

I knew about the shotgun and the wife.  I'm just incredulous that a politician would be dumb enough to say something like that.

The sad thing about all that is that they voted for him.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (none / 0)

congressman? Dumb enough?  We've got plenty of them in upstate NY.

I was watching the bill moyers Abramoff special last night.  Great stuff.  At one point of the guys says, "let's face it, this is the best job any of these guys is ever going to have and they are going to fight to keep it".

$165K a year with a bunch of perks and a killer pension.   Idiots like Kuhl couldn't find that anywhere else.

Tell me about it. My boy John McHugh said we may have to "begin to face reality in Iraq" some time in the future.

What a maroon.

Kuhl may be dumber, too. Tough call.

what a dilusional bastard. I think there are a few people in New Orleans (or people no longer in New Orleans, or dead people for that matter) who would take exception to that comment.

And this race is dead even, right? It's like 43-42 or something?

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (3.00 / 2)

As someone who grew up in the NY-29th, let me just say that Randy Kuhl shames our whole region.

I'm keeping my figers crossed the Massa can knock him off this year. Please help him out if you can.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (3.00 / 1)

Kuhl is an incredibly bad candidate and I can't believe that he won two years ago.  As a member of NY-28 I would love to see him go down.  For all you outsiders, you need to believe that with NY-28 running in a dead heat, NY-26 looking like a Davis win over Reynolds and NY-25 showing Maffei just behind Walsh, you have to believe that we could see a tidal wave of blue through central to west NY.  As someone who has spent virtually all his life between NY-28 and NY-25 this would be a really sweet victory.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (none / 0)

Plus, Arcuri is likely to win, we in NY-23 are picking up steam (Schumer will be endorsing us and stumping for us very soon), Gillibrand ... well, she should be in better shape than she is, but she's still got a decent shot ... I haven't seen any polling out of Hall's race, but they are running a strong campaign, at least.

NY could be death on the GOP.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (3.00 / 1)

hall had an internal poll that put him within margin of error.  Here are the latest NY polls that I know of (not including two new polls showing Davis up by 5% on Reynolds)

Republicans aren't releasing their internal polls so all we have to look at are independent polls or democratic internal polls. Here'e the picture:

NY-29: Massa (D) 42%--42% Kuhl (R) (Late September)

NY-24: Arcuri (D) 40%--36% Meier (R) (July 30).

NY-25: Walsh (R) 44%--40% Maffei (D) (Internal poll, September 21)

NY-19: Kelley (R) 49%--44% Hall (D) (Internal poll, September 17th).

NY-26: Reynolds 45 percent, Davis at 43 percent - Indepedent Poll, September

NY - 20 Siena had Sweeney at 53%, Internal poll had him at 47%

Looks like Sweeney is the leader here by being the only one to poll above 50%. A rough year for them if the good news is the guy who is doing the best is right at the traditional "trouble" level of 50%.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (none / 0)

NY-20 may actually be the most hardcore Republican district...remember how super-Republican Essex and Warren Counties tend to be.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (none / 0)

Plus, Arcuri is likely to win

Is huh?

Does the fact that no Democrat ever has won since the "Truman landslide" and that for only one term with the Democrat giving his inaugural speech and farewell speech on the House floor at the same time mean anything to you?

Does a hefty Republican lean, relaxed campaigning and dumb conventional ads matter?

Maybe Arcuri will win against a particularly inept rightwinger but it might not be a safe bet.

Only that anticipated blue wave is likely to bring Arcuri in in my opinion whatever the pollsters might say.

Best,  Terry

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (3.00 / 2)

I hope they went home and thought about that. They clearly thought at first thst he was making a joke. But the moment passses quickly and routine courtesy restores decorum. The impression that he'd made a major gaffe may have evaporated promply, if the local press doesn't leap on it.

We'll all be watching the New York congressional delegation change its tincture in November. I'm hoping for a major sea change. But we'll have to see.

It's interesting... as the cycle geared up, we hoped for three flips in CT, and had few hopes in NY beyond governor and senate races. Now it looks as if the sweep will be in NY, and the 'moderate' GOP incumbents in CT may all keep their seats. The momentum does not seem to be there.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (3.00 / 2)

not quite true... most polls show Coutney with a lead, with Zogby being the main exception, and on the other hand, Zogby is the main exception in showing Farrell with the lead over Shays. I haven't seen any polling on Nancy Johnson - Chris Murphy race though.

THE ROTARY CLUB (3.00 / 1)

It was the fricking rotary club, not exactly a bastion of liberal America.  Incredible.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (3.00 / 1)

I attended this debate yesterday. It was open to the public and they were turning people away. Hundreds of Eric Massa supporters were there. In the opening shot of the crowd you see people with their backs to the camera wearing white Tee shirts. Those are all folks for Massa.

Massa whupped Kuhl hard. This clip is from his closing statement and he is none too happy.

Re: Randy Kuhl (NY-29) - You need to see this (none / 0)

I also heard (but haven't seen it myself) that Kuhl said that 46 million uninsured Americans meant that there are 253 million insured Americans--many without jobs--so those that are uninsured are uninsured by choice.

I went to the Sestak-Weldon debate today.  We didn't get quite as big a gift as Kuhl gave, but Weldon did claim that he went into office poor and he'll leave office poor and he used the fact that he and his wife had to SELL THEIR BEACH HOUSE in order to afford more land in the district as proof.
