Operation Dark Heart : Jijitsu

The NYT's has a story (Pentagon Plan: Buying Books to Keep Secrets) about a book titled Operation Dark Heart. The Pentegon plotted on buying and destroying 10,000 copies of it, in an attempt to keep the things that are going on in Afghanistan under the lid.

You can't buy the book, technically, but then again, you can. Right now, its #19 on the Amazon best seller list, even though it is "Temporarily out of stock" as listed.

The book was published on August 31st:

#1 in  Books > History > Asia > Afghanistan #1 in  Books > Biographies & Memoirs > Leaders & Notable People > Military #1 in  Books > Nonfiction > Politics > Freedom & Security > Intelligence

I've ordered a copy. Lets push it to #1.

This is the sort of waste of taxpayer money that you would think the Tea Party and deficit zealots would be up in arms over... right.

Also, wikileaks is spreading the leak.

This really pisses me off.  Buying up books?  Well, now I will buy a copy.

On Friday, August 13, 2010, just as St. Martin’s Press was readying its initial shipment ofOperation Dark Heart, the Department of Defense expressed concern that its publication could cause damage to U.S. national security. The publication of the initial edition was canceled. However, after consulting with the author, Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, St. Martin's Press agreed to incorporate some of the government’s changes, which includes redacting classified text, into arevised edition, which is releasing on September 24.

 

People are already reviewing the book and giving it one star in protest.

But the original is selling on ebay for big bucks. I wonder if there is anything damaging in the original book or if this is much ado about nothing.
